Re: Watford Game

I suppose it depends on how Mangy takes penalties in training, so it's hard to answer that one. The goalie situation however was always gonna happen, if a games going to penalties it's one of Coley's tactics to switch keepers, no reflection on the keeper who has played the entire game apparently, he just does it to try & rattle the opposition. The first time he did it was against Bournemouth when he took Jamie Speare off & replaced him with Jon Kennedy, on that occasion it worked but Jamo was gutted as I suspect Ian was last night.

Re: Watford Game

Just a few observations from an exile here in London:

1) Never trust the media in what they report as comment. Although The Times is one of the best of the bunch in reporting 'facts', it would be interesting to see if Mr Coleman decides to illuminate (on this mornings publication) in the local media and to see if he stands by it or if he wishes to correct it.

He may stand by them or he may not; but the simple fact is that he is a hard taskmaster and his achievements are measured by what he has done over the last years. Who would have imagined 6 or 7 years ago that we would be giving a Premiership side such a hard-fought game, and coming away with a narrow defeat but with such boosted pride?

2) The Drum. Last night it was played as it should be played, certainly in the last few minutes of normal time and in the last ten minutes of extra time: with the crowd, it was awesome. I thought at one point the roof (what is a roof, you may ask?) was going to come down. The rythym and noise were perfect.

3) The fans - and lots of 'em. From reading this yesterday morning I got the impression that we would be seeing no more than a hundred or so at the game; I made a rough count of 3 or 4 hundred, without full vision. Other than the Ultras and the regular supporters down here, there was an awful lot of new faces to be seen last night. I took 2 along and they were both gobsmacked by the game and the rest of the Accy support.

Well done, everyone.

You must be joking it must be our accents as it couldn't have been the noise from Watford supporters drowning us out could it.

Re: Watford Game

We walked into the Witherspoons pub in the centre of Watford. Being a Real Ale man, I immeadiatly spotted a line of 6 Real Ale pumps and along with friends, made a hasty beeline for that spot by the bar. Having ordered a pint of Stella and a pint of Fosters, the conversation went like this:

Me:....And I pint of Abbot, please.

Barmaid: Sorry, that is off.

Me: OK...a pint of Flowers, then.

Barmaid: Sorry, that is off.

Me: OK...a pint of Spitfire, then.

Barmaid: Sorry, that is off.

Me: OK...a pint of Adnams, then

Barmaid: Sorry, that is off.

Me: Uhhh...a pint of Pride?

Barmaid: Sorry, that is off.

Me..what about a pint of Tetleys?

Barmaid: That's off, to. They're all off.

Moral of the story:- Watford barmaids are the thickest in the world.

Re: Watford Game

Really enjoyed my day out in Watford yesterday.

Went for tea at the Football Cafe round the corner from the ground, it was nice food in there and the staff were friendly too, We were the only Stanley fans in there and got some strange looks from the locals

The game was awesome, I never would have dreamed we would hold watford for 120mins without conceding a goal. The team were absolutely brilliant and a credit to the club. My Man of the match has to be Ian Dunbavin, he pulled off some excellent saves throughout the match. I was shocked to see him replaced near to the end of extra time, he got a standing ovation from every stanley fan...Well Done Ian

The support from the fans was excellent throughout the match, well done diesel the drum playing was great. You would have thought it was a cup final at the new Wembley, we sang for the whole 120mins. The penalty shoot out was nailbiting stuff you could feel the tension in the air!

But, you always get some idiots that try to spoil things dont you....

When we set off home we had some brain dead 'cockney chavs' in a car driving past us and making hand gestures, shouting abuse and generally driving like idiots, im sure they were following us, we saw them on a few occasions on the way to the motorway...they were probably just jealous of our team

Talking Re: Watford Game

A brilliant night at Watford last night (still recovering ! ), and even though we did not get the result we all hoped for, I felt that Stanley were the moral winners of the match.

OK - it could be argued that Watford did not play their absolutely strongest team - they may say that anyway to cover up their performance - but a Premiership team should be able to run rings around Stanley, newly promoted from the Conference and some three divisions lower than their far more highly paid opponents. Did this happen ???

No way !!!! I felt (even as an inexperienced observer) that Stanley matched them in almost all aspects of the game, and at times, it would have been difficult to determine which team actually is in League Two. All the lads played out of their skins - heros one and all - and Ian Dunbavin's command of his area was a very welcome sight. I am still left wondering what might have been had that disallowed goal in the first half been allowed to stand - but hey, such is life ! There will be other times, and I think we should be so proud of everyone who had anything to do with this cracking effort - from Coley and all the players (both on the pitch and on the bench) to the fantastic support given by the Ultras (as always) who sang their hearts out throughout the entire 120 mins. Who could possibly have failed to be lifted when you have the best supporters in the world like that ?

Though not all of us could match their singing efforts, those around me did their level best to drive the team on, and I was SO PROUD of Stanley at the end.I must also mention the brilliant drum playing of Diesel, who added enormously to the incredible atmosphere - well done Diesel - how on earth do you keep that going for so long ???

Several Watford fans I spoke to after the match felt that we had not deserved to lose, and one even admitted to me that he had wanted Stanley to win the penalty shoot out, so well had they played.

Once again, a fantastic effort guys, thanks to everyone and onwards and upwards now - starting hopefully with 3 points at Mansfield on Saturday.

WELL DONE STANLEY !!!

Re: Watford Game

I'm with Accymad on this one, even the Telegraph tonight is ' quoting ' Coley, let anyone else call your players, but never ever especially to the press call your own !
Thought the lads had a fantastic game last night, did Accy and themselves proud.
Only comment / question i have to make is WHY play Doherty instead of Bocco ?
Sorry to have to say this, but Doherty isn't even in the frame for me when Bocco's about !!

Couldn't dissagree with you more Accymad.Penalty shootouts( or any penalty) are not a lottery, they are a test of skill and nerve between 2 people matching their individual ability.Accy are pros,Coleman a pro, they didn't go there for a picnic. As manager/players,you should expect to win every game, that is your job.It dosen't always happen, but you wouldn't last long as a salesman if you regarded each potential customer as a 'lottery'- "They come thru the door so I will to sell them something" is the attitude. I do agree it's harsh to 'name names' after such an event.

Having said that,I myself was absolute crap at spotties.
