Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Eric can be applauded for hiring Coleman and taking the club full-time paid staff, so credit where credt is due. My personal view is that JC is more than 70% creditable for the success with the budgets given. I believe, not many would have achieved the same with the given resources. BUT eric appointed him, and that was the masterstroke. Eastwood Hanley who are they ?

Not wishing to take anything away from the success of John Coleman here, but the resources available to him have been by no means scarce for the bulk of his reign. Comparitively & relatively speaking.
Words on Eric Whalley? On a personal and sentimental level I will miss him around. I'll always think that he could've 'gone out' in a better way had he sold up sooner, and I've been angry at his decisions/words often, but the commitment to the cause of getting the club back into the Football League can only be admired and the memories will be treasured always.

If this refers to Eastwood beating an overwork Accy side in the late 80's a defeat which ultimately lead to Eric resigning as Manager few on here will remember it.
Just shows how much the club as moved on.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
John Kilner was in goal, the remainder of the team consisted of stalwarts like Grimmy, Steve Parry, Rowwy, Martin Eatough all who left with Eric.
I can still hear the Champers rattling around in the boot of the Coach the Directors saw fit not to share them around and they brought them back to the club unopened. the team hasd played something like 6 games in a fortnight and it showed.

4-0 as I remember it. I still believe Eric knew he was going and taking half the team with him. I think it was the 88/89 season.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Whilst I agree with most of the comments on Mr Whalley in that he has dragged the football club back into the big time (so to speak). I cannot forgive him for the comments on the mini series on what he said about the stewards. Washers - he should be have been thankful that people wanted to do the job and get all the sh*t from both home and away spectators. And yes I have been one of those abused by home speccies when attempting to do as I had been told by Mick and other senior stewards. It is a thankless task and one which Mr Whalley should have appreciated, especially when mucked about with wages.

Macca,
Will look the date up but to my memory there were 2 big Eastwood games, plus one were we lost 4-0 when we Gerry Keenan was manager.
The Steve Bram in goal was Boxing game in the early 80's, in a Cheshire League cup reply with a 1-30pm ko. Kev Bradshaw missed the coach, we waited for ages; then got changed on the coach, hence the late KO. A good day was had when we won (1-0 from memory)
The "other" Eastwood game was when I was AWOL, but the story I believe was Accy needed to win and lost. Drinks were withheld and EW fell out with the directors on the way home???

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Talking of directors, I notice Frank Martindale has left the club. I will miss the banter on the coach to Torquay ( he being a St Helens RL supporter and my missus a Wigan Warriors supporter). I do hope he will have a long and happy retirement, but it would be nice to see him around the club. Thanks Frank, I for one will miss you.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
It's not looking good for Chester. They met with the Conference and the FA on Monday and a statement was promised for yesterday. Nothing's been said since. As you'd expect, Grays, who are supposed to be hosting them on Saturday, aren't very pleased.
