Who was (or is) a success?
Now that Higginbotham has gone back, and Gornell and Griffiths are soon going back, which of the loan players we've had this season did people rate?
Gornell's a real star; quick, bright and brave; struck up an immediate understanding with Paul Mullin, and a good goalscorer
Griffiths has been a hit, I reckon; sometimes tried to do a little too much, but that half-volley goal last Saturday will take some beating as Goal of the Season at FES
Higginbotham was showing some promise - looked short of confidence but had something about him ........
Clarke hasn't showed whatever potential he's got yet; too easily pushed around by the big central defenders - runs the channels, but looking behind him
Charnock's a hit; classy and confident. Am I reading too much into the fact that his loan now goes just into the transfer window in January?
I quite liked the lad from West Brom who got injured and went home
So that's it, then; I vote that we buy Gornell, Griffiths and Charnock. Anybody got a spare £200k or so ...........?

Re: Who was (or is) a success?
i agree with everything bit you say
Gornell; going to be a hot prospect for the furture he is a bright star alreay he is already showing he is brave and quick not scared to have a shot at goal, his goal on saturday was very good! great understanding with paul mullin as is pass to create the first goal on saturday
Griffiths; amazing talent in the centre midfield quaility goal on saturday he quotes in paper he would like to score some more before he goes back and maybe in january he will come back i hope so! i think we will miss him when he goes wish he could of signed for season as he is putting in quaility performances!
higginbotham; was good on saturday but need is confidence abit higher to be able to take on players and that will only come with playing games has pace aswell
clarke; has a great understanding to run the channels but needs to build up abit he is abit like mangan gets pushed of alot but he can play higher than league 2
charnock; we should buy him even if we have to pay £50k + for him top player in defence him and phil edwards play well together the back is looking very soild this year soild i have seen them since we have been in the league, he has just signed until january which is good for us but also gives time for other scouts to look at him which aint good!
i would buy Gornell, Griffiths and Charnock, Higginbotham, just wish i knew what the 6 numbers would be on lottery

Re: Who was (or is) a success?
They have all been a success except Clarke.
Can our are new South American coach swing us some influence with a few Liverpool youngsters in terms of getting them on-loan.

Re: Who was (or is) a success?
My own opinion..
Charnock...
..seems to have stuck up a good understanding with Edwards and with King performing consistently and it has to be said, the back line looking firm in recent weeks, I only hope that We can manage to secure his services on a permanent basis. If Posh ask for a fee, I only hope that the powers that be can realise the impact the lad has had on our defensive performances since his arrival and can try to do all they can, financial constraints permitting, to sign the lad permanently.
Gornell...
...A good young striker with promise. It won't have gone un-noticed at Tranmere that he's performed admirably since he's joined us and they'd probably want a good fee for the lad, probably significantly more than we could afford. That said, apparently Tranmere have a plethora of stikers on their books, maybe he didn't fit in with Moore's plans, but that withstanding, after his exploits with us on loan, a permanent signing is probably out of reach. Maybe if he isn't going to figure with Tranmere when his loan expires, a move to secure him from January till the end of the season ??? I'd love to see us sign him permanent, but sadly can't see it happening.
Griffiths....
...Wasn't stuck on the lad when he first arrived, but recent performances have really encouraged me. I thought he at times (when he first arrived) did want a little too much time on the ball. That said, he does, at times, manage to deliver telling passes, last weeks goal against Bournemouth maybe showed a glimpse of how the lad strikes a ball ( AND WHAT A STRIKE ) Can't see him forcing his way into Ince's plans at the prima donna's line up at Ewood,so again, sign him to the end of the season and hope (for Stanley's sake and not the player's) that like many of the promising young players that Rovers take on their books,he's released and we can make a move to keep him here permanently !!
Clarke...
...Was Impressed with the lad in the early days of this season when he figured. He has pace, not frightened to shoot, but for some reason hasn't figured much recently?? ( Injured ?? ) Before Gornell arrived, he did look a resonable foil for Mullin, Gornell has obviously proved otherwise. Obviously the lad has potential, otherwise our illustrious neighbours wouldn't have given him terms, but dependant on how the Gornell situation pans out, maybe another move to secure his services until May??
All in all, we ain't got too much coin to throw at signing players. The loan solution may be the answer, after all it got Hereford promoted last term ( that said... It hasn't done them too good this season!! ) The main aim must be, and i'm sure is, to maintain League football for next season. With the gates that we get, that's all we can hope for. Maybe if the public got behind us more and gates increased to somewhere around the level they where when we won promotion to the league ( around the 2,000-2500 mark) Whalley,Coleman and Bell could possibly make moves to sign these players.
Harsh reality is... we can't splash the cash, when we have had quality players, Such as Craney & Roberts, we've had to sell.Whilst living in the shadow of Rovers & Burnley, that will always be our lot.
For inspiration look at Stockport. They've unearthed a couple of gems from non league recently, such as Dickinson ( I think they signed him for £2K and he went to Derby for £750K; and from what I've seen they've unearthed another such gem whose highly rated) We missed out on Baker because we haggled with Southport over a price (£50K) and Morecambe made paid the price and sold him for a good profit.
Obviously, the management have to decide, that with the means availaible,if we can afford the expenditure on securing permanent signings (i.e Transfer fee & WAGES ) It must be a tough blancing act.And on the gates we currently get???
The sad fact remains though, unless gates improve, we're always going to be "treading water" so to speak.

Must say a very very good and concise assessment of the situation down at 'The Stanley'

Re: Who was (or is) a success?
To add my two'penneth, Clarke is injured (back problems I believe), but I agree with others on this thread, If and it is a huge IF, we can sign Charnock, Griffiths et al then we have a promising looking second half to the season and no reason why we shouldn't aim for the play-offs. My only problem is, are we talking up the price for Keiran. Everyone is saying 50k for him, yet Peterborough have not named a price YET! Yes they may want back what they paid for him, then Eric should ask our other benefactor Mr Khan for the funds for him, he is simply a revelation for us. Lets face it, both he and Phil Edwards used to play with the youth set up at Wigan Athletic, so know how each other plays. Gornell, again lets see if it is possible to get him till the end of the season. I am afraid that Jamie Clarke will be going back to Blackburn though. Not been that impressive, IMHO.
So lets hope for a merry Christmas and an even happier new year with the hope that our loanees come back till the end of the season.
Here's wishing!!

Re: Who was (or is) a success?
we also cant cancel out any of our players should they recive a bid from another team! phill edwards been playing very well all season! mullin are they going to put in another bid for him which would be higher than we have to accpet so that could go to the funds of aquireing charnock, griffiths etc i hope this wont happen but you cant cancel out it happening
