Wombles (not concrete cows) thread

Anyone go to the game and form an opinion on the signings. I'm getting a bit apprehensive that people don't transition well from National League North!

Re: Wombles (not concrete cows) thread

Not the easiest game to say Haggis, but in my opinion, Matthews did OK, as did Ward - who we have seen a couple of times now.

Caton and the other O'Brien did not have enough time on the pitch, or ball at their feet to form an opinion........

Good point, earned against a strong, well drilled team

Thanks! My early impressions are that Ward is a sound signing. Dev Matthews comes with such ringing endorsements that I expect he'll bridge the gap. Yes they're well ensconced in the play off places and its a well earned point.

Mathew's looked a confident centre back to me. Played well against a big, strong Wimbledon forward line-up. O'Brien came on late but his touch looked good and he has good, quick feet. I'm hopeful (always hopeful) he will be a useful "forward thinking" attacking midfielder....

Re: Wombles (not concrete cows) thread

Thought it was a good, competitive game today, even though very few chances, and the draw a fair result.
The Wombles looked a big tough team but we’re less thuggish than some we’ve had at The Wham.
The defence, including the new lads, were excellent. As Crown Grounder said, not enough time on the pitch to judge Caton and O’Brien-W but they did nowt wrong.
Well earned point from the entire squad.

Just as an aside, Donald Love, JRB, Aljofree, Seb Quirk, Dan Martin, Josh Woods and Popoola did not even make the bench..............

Not all of them are injured, or suspended.....

Re: Wombles (not concrete cows) thread

I couldn’t be at the match today. By all accounts it seems like Stanley did well in spite of yet more rubbish refereeing! Glad the new defenders had solid games. Hopefully one of or more of the new forwards can produce the ‘Knack’ of putting the ball in the net which is what we have been missing for the last couple of seasons. Glad to see John Doolan back in the fold. ON STANLEY ON.

Re: Wombles (not concrete cows) thread

It wasn’t the ref who was the problem it was the linesman on the Whinney Hill side. I suspect he was a sad attention seeker, amongst other possible things.

Apart from not giving us two penalties Val, I thought the ref did OK. Can't be many games where we get fewer yellow cards than the opposition team?
Was Donald Love suspended today for totting up yellow cards? Sonny rested according to Ged.....
