Wycombe Match Thread

No Lee Naylor - Wilson returns. Naylor not on the bench either; he has to be injured, surely? Wouldn't be out of the 18 after the reviews he's been getting ....

Anybody know?

Otherwise - same team. Odejayi on the bench sounds useful. Wet ball, skiddy pitch = shoot on sight

Not a good game by any stretch due to the conditions but my what a finish.

There are players who go missing in a team that's not playing well (missing posters for Kal Naismith are in circulation I hear). Then there's players who thrive in a battling atmosphere - step forward Peter Murphy. Sign him up for life.

A borrowed result in the end but that finish will spur us on.

Spot on, Shaker, but the conditions didn't seem to stop Wycombe playing some lovely stuff, especially down the right where their winger ran rigs round Wilson. Kayode made all the difference when he came on, which begs the question why JB didn't start with him, as our first half was dire. Unfortunately, we don't seem capable of playing any other style than humped long balls, as our midfield is so weak, which is nonsense with Webber and Gray up front. Mingoia was by far the better of our wide men, with Kal running into blind alleys and constantly losing possession. One great effort on goal from him doesn't count for much when his overall play is so poor. Surely we can't keep relying on our walking get out of jail card?

Drab game really but a useful point that keeps the unbeaten run going. We are keeping pace with the teams above us so that is the most important thing.

Your right, he is dire.

There is a reason why we go behind in games and need last minute goals to get a draw.
And part of that reason is having players with the ability (lack of) of Murphy in the team.

Its well documented he tries hard and has a good attitude, but this game is called football and he does not have the ability required of a league 2 central midfielder.
In his defence, he is not helped by habing Joyce as his midfield partner.

Only two sides not lost in their last five - us and Pompey

AND we're off the bottom. Who wants to sack the Manager now?

Me.
Its his fault we ended up in this mess, and just to remind you we are still in the relegation zone.

But then again, div3north thinks that is something worth celebrating.

Re: Wycombe Match Thread

Talk about daylight robbery. Wycombe must be wondering how they didn't win that game. Yes our unbeaten run keeps on going [Thank goodness for Peter Murphy]. But have to agree with others, Kal Naismith was way out of his depth today, as was I'm afraid to say, Luke Joyce. Every pass that went to either of them resulted in a Wycombe attack. Another missing player was Danny Webber, pulled out of every tackle and lost the ball frequently. The only thing spectacular about today's game was the lightning storm over back end of the Coppice. Thank goodness it didn't hit one of our floodlight pylons as it did at Rochdale. Can't make a judgement of George Bowerman, wasn't on long enough, but there were green shoots of a great potential partnership with Kayode Odejayi. Still at least we are off the bottom of the league. Onwards and upwards, perhaps we can forgive a downbeat performance and blame the weather.

Keep rattling Davo's cage: five unbeaten and 9 valuable points whilst he continues to drink from his half-empty glass.

Picking up points when you don't play well is a real positive IMHO

That's as may be, but the likes of Davo, myself and others who are labelled "glass half empty" fans can see that with a little more astute direction from the management we could be doing so much better. Unless they can find a driving playmaker in midfield we are going to struggle to do better than merely grimly hanging on to a lead or ragging a share of the points. The maxim of not changing a winning team is is surely only valid at our level if your strikers are hitting the net consistently, but that isn't the case with us. Our little Clayton End group were disappointed but not surprised before the match to find that Kayode was on the bench. If he had been on from the start instead of Webber I don't think we would have found ourselves chasing the game, but JB's conservative approach cost us, IMHO. Not using our best forward asset by far from the start was plain daft.
