Six yellow cards for Stanley with two resulting in a red card! Four yellow cards for Harrogate! So was it a dirty match or…….just incompetent refereeing!

Re: Yorkshire Rascals match thread

IMHO Stanley deserved the win and three points today in spite of seemingly playing against twelve men!
Stanley started well playing with control and some good possession. Stanley deservedly went in front with a super ‘throwback’ special free kick goal from Sean Mac! On the balance of play I thought that Stanley were worth a two goal lead at half time.
It all hinged on the referee’s dubious decision to book Quirk for apparently wasting time taking a throw in. This meant that Seb was playing with jeopardy from then on. Early substitutions by Harrogate brought them into the game a bit more but Stanley seemed to have got through that threat when Quirk was given a second yellow for a raised foot in a fifty fifty tackle. That was probably just about justified but of course the ref then brandished the red card. From the resulting free kick Harrogate equalized and we all feared the worst.
However, Stanley were looking really positive for the three points. Led on by the amazingly fit Sean Whalley the reds were certainly going for it! A free kick was awarded on the right but thirty yards from the goal. I was right in line with Jack Nolan’s view of the goal from my usual place in the Clayton End. His left footed shot was played wide of the wall and aided by the breeze it curled beautifully into the net at the far post!
It was a justifiable and worthy winner of the match. Coley’s substitutions were spot on today. Jack Nolan, Josh Woods and Matt Lowe brought fresh impetus and pace resulting in a grandstand finish.
The Stanley faithful finished the match ‘Loud and Very Proud’ of our team’s performance today!
However, there was a cloud on the victory as Sean MacConville had gone down on close to ninety minutes with what looked like a serious injury. I hope that it is not as bad as it looked.
A good three points in defiance of some poor refereeing finds Stanley in fourth place tonight. Pre season we would all have taken that I am sure!
ON STANLEY ON
KEEP THE FAITH

Re: Yorkshire Rascals match thread

Jack’s goal went in on the near post not the far post as I suggested earlier.

It all got lost in the fog of a desperate finish to hold on to the three points!

Re: Yorkshire Rascals match thread

For 45+ minutes I thought we’d finally found a decent ref, but his second half performance was beyond belief. What a plonker.
Some good performances from Stanley today. Savin made some great saves and catches. Whalley well deserved his MotM. Hills and Quirk did well at the back. Good to see Longelo back on form. Andrews managed to find the odd bit of space and did his bit as a lone (loan) striker.
Stanley had three or four good chances in the first half on top of the sweetly struck goal from McConville.
Then the second half began to resemble the Barrow game as Harrogate upped the pace and pressure with three useful subs, made worse by Quirk’s dismissal.
Tbh, after their goal I was hoping we could just hang on to a point but Stanley’s subs did add some of their own pace and Nolan’s free kick was inch perfect to seal all three points.
Well done, lads.

Credit when it's deserved Exile we played well today could have had 3 or 4 on another day just got to up our second ball game and we will win more than we lose.

Re: Yorkshire Rascals match thread

For all those who criticise Matt Lowe, he was the one telling every player to keep focused (right after the Nolan goal) and was telling everybody to get back to start the game - just in case the referee started throwing more time wasting cards around!!

It is not just about scoring goals - well it is, but you know what I mean

Re: Yorkshire Rascals match thread

Neither Andrews or Lowe get decent support when they have the ball. Long balls punted up field to them and the opposing CHs are tight behind them and holding. All they can do is lay the ball off but theres never any support to pick up the second ball.

Re: Yorkshire Rascals match thread

Player sent off is not allowed within the field of play, technical area or within the dugouts. If he was standing/sitting in the area adjacent to the changing rooms in the corner behind the wall he should be OK.

Did not know that Watchdog, I thought that they had to go to the changing rooms, or away from the play completely

Thanks for that
