The things in the back ground are called trees, the things in the middle ground are called fences & the things in the forground are often called bushes.

So how do you stop people nicking your wood before 5.11.2005 ?
The word(s) you are looking for are CAMOUFLAGE and LOTTERY GRANT

CAMOUFLAGE n. The method or result of concealing personnel or equipment from an enemy by making them appear to be part of the natural surroundings.

Nice carvings though. Somebody went to a lot of trouble.

Re: Does anybody know what these are?

I'd forgotten about that one down Miller Fold. It's more like a native American totem pole isn't it?

The ones on the fence struck me as being very LOTR too Mani. They are quite hidden away in a field but there's a public footpath behind them (with a stile that's very high for my little legs so I didn't get any closer). I just got as close to the hedge as possible and took the photo, but missed out the carving nearest to me which could easily have been Gollum.

I've seen these and wondered about them too. I put it down to little girls on horses with overindulgent parents.
