Today was the day when the wood burner was going to be fitted.
When I awoke I looked through the bedroom window.....oh-oh.....snow....and more coming down.
This did not bode well for two men going up on my roof.
I was expecting a phone call to say it was all 'off'.
I still shifted the furniture and pulled up the rug in readiness.
I was just having my breakfast when the phone rang.....this is it, I thought.
I picked up the phone and it was the decorator....he was ringing to say he was on his way, but was caught up in traffic.
I told him to drive carefully and I would have the kettle on for when he got here.
Just after this, the doorbell rang.
Outside was a very young looking man....a chimney sweep, come to fit the wood burner.
He came in and said he would do the inside work and then review the roof situation.
So the place where the log burner will go has been completed....but it was deemed unsafe to go on the roof.
Weather permitting, they will return tomorrow to fit the flue liner, sweep the chimney and fit the log burner.
The decorator worked away like a beaver....has put some gloss on the doors, has put the patterned paper on the chimney breast in the front room....and it looks really good.
Yes, of course I am going to say that...it was me who chose the paper.
I can see the vision which has sustained me, materialising in front of my eyes.
Now next week there will be little work done, as the decorator is off on a weeks break with his wife and little boy...ski-ing.
I have told him to have a great holiday and come back safe to finish my work.
There IS light at the end of the tunnel.
Pictures...just to show how the work is progressing.
The wood burner looks black but it is Majolica Brown....and in some lights it actually looks more like a burgundy colour.
The hole in the wall is where this fire will eventually live...the other two pics are of the front room...complete with feature wall papered.
