A day trip.

On Tuesday Tyler and I had a trip out.
I asked him where he would like to go and he just gave me a gallic shug.

He said that he really did not mind where we went.
I had been in the Town Hall a couple of weeks back and picked up a couple of brochures for day trips.

One brochure was from Moving People.
They had some interesting trips on offer and the best part was that Tyler could go on one of these for the princely price of a fiver.
I rang up and made enquiries about the trip to Chester.
Alas it was fully booked.
The girl said she would take my number and would get back to me if anyone dropped out.

Well, last Friday I had a phonecall.
It was from Moving People.
They asked if I was still interested in going to Chester on their day trip...there had been so much interest in it that they had had to put a second coach on.

I jumped at the chance.....it was just a fiver for Tyler(because he counts as a child)...and it was 15 quid for me(a senior).
They would pick us up from Matalan car park at 9:15 on Tuesday morning.

I looked forward to the trip all weekend.
We were there suited and booted and true to their word the coach rolled up at 9:10...and we were on the road by 9:15.

We picked up a few other travellers at Blackburn, but then it was straight onto the motorway to Chester.

This trip was a 'take your pick' event.
You could go to the city, or the zoo, or the retail outlet Cheshire Oaks.

We were dropped off in the city first....at about 11am.
Tyler was hungry and asked if we could go for lunch.
I told him that it wasn't quite lunchtime and that we should have a look round first.
He asked if I knew where I was going. I told him that this was going to be a day of discovery, maybe even an adventure...that as six decades had elapsed since my last visit, my remembrance of the place was very hazy.

We went into St Johns church on Vicar lane....I am not religious at all but I do like to look at the architecture of these old buildings.
Tyler is good in that he humours me with my desires to visit old dusty places...where ruins have been discovered and dug up.

Have satisfied my curiousity, it was time to move on.
We passed the Roman Amphitheatre...and the Roman gardens and made our way along Pepper street.
Then we crossed the road and hung a right.
There were a lot of shops...posh shops, some of them were up the steps in what is called The Rows.
We said we would come back later to those.

I stood for a few minutes listening to a young man who was playing a haunting melody on a violin.
I felt I knew the tune, but for the life of me I cannot now tell you what it was...except that it made me come over all unnecessary.
It made me remember my dad playing the violin...not that he played it with the same level of expertise that this young man had....but nevertheless it plucked at MY heart strings.

We walked down Eastgate towards the clock.
The centre was not too busy at this point.
Tyler wanted to eat....he told me that his tummy was rumbling and that his legs felt hollow.
Did I know where there was a Wetherspoons?
Well of course I did.

Come back if you want more.
See some pics of our great day out.
