Now don't get all excited, this isn't quite what you might think.....I haven't spurged....well, only a little little bit
The insurance company called me today about my 'dead' camera........they told me.....'Your camera is dead'.
Well, No of course they didn't actually say that.
What they actually told me was that my camera was beyond repair......I think I had told them that when I registered the claim, but it is always good to have the experts opinion....especially when it confirms what you told them in the first place.
I would have been bursting with joy if they had told me that it could be mended.
They then told me that the offer of a new one would be a Nikon S200 - they wanted to know if this would be acceptable......well, off the top of my head I couldn't tell them.
I took their telephone number and said I would check it out and get back to them.
I was told if it wasn't acceptable there would have to be a valid reason.
Off I trotted to my trusty computer and had a look at this model that they planned to offer me.
Ooer, it looked very light and flimsy....my old camera was a 'tank' of a job....the specs were Ok but the ultra compactness of the thing was not.
I got back on the blower and spoke to a very pleasant young man.
I told him that I had looked at the camera they were proposing to offer and felt it wasn't suitable.
He wanted to know why....he said the specs were better than those of the broken one.....Yes, I agreed, they were......and the camera they were offering looked very good....but as I have some arthritis in my hands I felt that it would cause me some problems with handling......I told him that as you get older smaller isn't always best....sometimes you need something to hang onto......he laughed(yeah we all do that when we are young) and asked if i had a model in mind.....that threw me for a minute, because although I seem to have done nothing only look at camera's recently, I was hard pressed to come up with a substantial Nikon.....anyway he helped me out a bit by suggesting a Nikon P50......saying that it was built on the style of the broken one....that the specs were slightly better....but hang on - there would have to be a charge. Yes, well knowing my luck there would have to be.
'How much is it going to hurt me' I asked?
'Oh, not a lot......how about £17'? he said.
'that's not painful at all'.......and then he said that this would be added to the excess.......so we agreed and I paid the man the money and was told that my new camera should be with me on Friday.
I will see how I get on with the new jobby, and if it doesn't suit me - well, it may just find itself advertised on Accyweb.
Watch this space.
