It isn't very far to The Apollo....but too far to walk.....especially in heels.
I was saying to Nicola that I wear heels so rarely nowadays, that I find it hard to walk in them....can you really forget how to walk in heels.....and I'm not talking those really high jobbies.......just a little over 2 inch.
It was lovely to get there in the sunshine, and it was still very warm.
We had armed ourselves with paper fans (remembering how we nearly melted last time we were here)...we also had bottles of drink....orange cordial. Alas these were confiscated.......water only was permitted to be taken into the venue.
We could have bought some water I suppose....but I don't like water, so was hardly likely to pay £1.90 for a bottle of Adams Ale.
Our seats were at the front of the auditorium......the front row in fact...so we actually benefitted from the air conditioning that was aimed at the stage.
A young woman came on the stage to tell us that we were not permitted to use any kind of recording equipment or take photo's.......and that anyone found doing so illicitly would have their equipment confiscated......mobile phones had to be turned off.....she said any messages that were to be delivered, would be handled by John himself.
John Edward then came onto the stage.
He always tells a little bit about himself and the fact that he has been getting messages since he was 15 years old......and the fact that his father, a New York policeman is a spiritual sceptic and does not believe in what his son does........then John asked the audience for questions.
In our previous visit to see him I could not think of a question to put to him...but this time I thrust my hand into the air and hoped that he would pick me......he didn't.
The messages that were given to those lucky people to get them through, were according to the recipients, very accurate.
Another round of questions was asked for....and again I put my hand in the air and it took me all my time not shout 'Me, sir....pick me'...but again he didn't....this despite the fact that I have been carrying my dad's picture around and talking to him....no, not out loud......I really don't want to be carted off to the crazy house.
There seemed to be far more men in the audience this time...but whether they were there willingly or not, I couldn't say.
Maybe they had been informed that if they didn't attend, then their conjugles would be cut off.
It was, as last time, an interesting and sometimes funny, sometimes poignant evening.
One of the very firm philosophies that was left with us was to be sure to tell those that you love what they really mean to you, to never miss an opportunity to say those words 'I love you'....because one day they may not be there any longer, and you won't easily be able to get your message across to them.
Too soon it was over.....we were all spilling out into the warm evening air.
The place had been packed......not an empty seat anywhere.
We got a taxi back to the hotel, but instead of going back to our room we wandered into the bar and ordered two very large glasses of Gallo Zinfandel.
We lounged on the squishy sofa and talked about lots of things.......generally putting the world to rights.
Once we had drained the glass we headed off to bed.
We were both tired......both of us had been up early and so we felt that we would need no lullaby to get us off to sleep.
We laughed and chatted until well after midnight, then settled down on those lovely beds and slept like babies.
Alarm set for 7.15.
To be continued.
