Bits and pieces.

Well, daughter has gone back to college this week....this means that I am on Child care duties. The baby is 14 weeks old and the other anklebiter is rising two....when I just looked after him, I had him over to my house, but with two it is just a bit more difficult....transporting what they need between the two houses so I am looking after them in their own home. That is OK, but I don't quite know where everything is at the moment.....and I don't like rummaging in case my daughter thinks I am being a nosey old trout. Yesterday and today the course is only in the morning, but Friday it is all day.

Today the anklebiter didn't get up until after 7am....he is normally an early riser, and usually needs a nap by mid morning. He was racing round like his pants were on fire.....I had just got the baby to sleep and he woke her up.....I wasn't best pleased....it was 10:30 so I told him 'Bed'..... he is very good and he went to the bottom of the stairs and I got him up there and in his cot.....He whinged for a while and then it seemed to go quiet. I thought to myself...'oh, good he's gone off to sleep' I started to give the baby a bottle and then I heard sounds of happy play. I thought I had better go up there and investigate. When I got into his room the little monkey had managed to climb over the side of his cot and was playing with a brass door plate......waving it in the air like a sabre. And he GRINNED when he saw me. I put him back in his cot and he promptly showed me how he had managed to get out....it was an effortless performance. My daughter is going to have to put a gate at the top of the stairs now..... and I think she will need to move some things that she had been storing in his room. I felt like a real spoilsport. I put him back in his cot and told him that he hadn't to get out again.....and he did eventually go off for a sleep....but I listened hard to make sure he didn't get out again.

I really don't know where kids get their energy from.

The days are drawing in now and although we haven't had the heating on, I can feel winter breathing down my neck.
The other thing I have noticed is that there are Christmas things in the shops. I read somewhere recently that there were only 90 days to Christmas....well, it will be less than that now.
Aldi have their Christmas cakes in.....now, they are a real bargain.
I always used to make a load of Christmas cakes....in fact I would be starting them now..... but since discovering how good the Aldi ones are, I haven't bothered. My hubby is glad I have given up making Christmas cakes.....they used to be all over the house. I would make them at the end of September or the beginning of October and feed them every week with brandy....the smell was lovely.....then a couple of weeks before Christmas I would put the almond paste on them and then the week before Christmas would be spent decorating them....I would make about a dozen and give them as part of my Christmas gifts.....they would be wrapped in cellophane and I would double layer it and put star confetti or some sparkling confetti between the layers.
Now I limit myself to making the Christmas dinner.....sausage savouries and maybe a cheesecake and a boozy sherry trifle.
Ooh, I've made myself quite peckish now!

what a cheeky chappy he sounds but tons of fun tho!!
I remember making our Christmas cakes at school, one year, it turned out to be the best thing I ever made. when it was time to take my cake home my teacher that took regristration promptly asked for a look and said it was gorgeous and had I really made it?!!! I knew the guy had no faith in me!!!
