Bricks and Mortar.........

This is a bit of a messy blog. I've not blogged for a while which is why. Loads of different things I want to diarise.

I think I must have S.A.D. Well not *really*, but I do feel I am being affected by this grey, gloomy weather. It's more the lack of colour and light -than the cold even though I hate being cold. It feels as if this is the longest period of it I've ever experienced! Wonder if anybody else feels like this. It feels as if 'winter' has lasted forever.

I decided my mood was probably affected marginally more than most, because I spend about a third of the week nocturnal. So for this reason among others I've decided to not work for a bit, until I'm back to my usual self. I'm not a fan of the dark. This in itself it was something I was apprehensive about as work tends to regulate my mind-I like routine... Also I'm scared the lack of exercise will affect me!But a few weeks isn't enough to make so much a difference if I'm careful, is it.

One of the 'others' it's among is the fact that the other half has bought a house to do up and I think we're going to buy another one. After my old one sold given all the trivial things that went wrong with that, I was ready to be a free spirit forever but I've 'recovered' from that experience now. A lot of it was due to the fact I was never happy at that house, in the first place. Some places I have good feelings about and some I don't-not really much to do with what they look like, I find.

I always hated my parents' house and am very glad they've now moved. I looked after the place for them a while ago and couldn't sleep well and never settled there, I can't put my finger on why as it was a nice house on the surface. Something to do with the way I felt about it I suppose.

This one is potentially going to be great for us, but I'm not keen on actually living in it yet. A couple of months ago I decided to rent a small place near my family anyway, so I'm still doing that for now and spend half the week over here helping him with this one.

There's a lot to do, at the moment I'm just focusing on making sure nothing's dangerous. It was a repossession and hasn't been a 'home' for a while it seems. He is working on the fabrics of it and I'm doing the cleaning up and arranging of somebody to come and do the work we either can't do, or are not able to do for whatever reason.

The dog's happy. She seems to like all the nooks and crannies in it and is less concerned by the appearance than I am! It's right next to a large park as well. Good thing really as my place is too small to have her in.

I put a thread up about this a long time ago I think-about belongings and getting rid of things one doesn't need-and this (among other things) really helped me-as I've always been one of those folk who doesn't like parting with 'stuff'.

Now, I am proud to announce that everything I own (with the exception of Kya, and the cage my three fancy rats are in!) can fit into the boot of my car.

I think belongings can end up 'owning you' if you're not careful. I feel much more free without loads of 'stuff'. He is as bad as me (or me as I was!) for this and I think I am going to have to nudge him in the right direction and get rid of some things, especially as this house is smaller than the old one-some things he has are enviable to me, some are really beautiful-and a lot of these worthy things get buried and forgotten about when you have a lot of pointless clobber 'covering' them , metaphorically if not literally.

It's a civil servant 'strike' today so we have the day together. I'd much rather go for a long walk/drive and find a nice pub to sit in, than to spend the day within these walls but it'll be worth it in the end won't it :)
I no longer have the van-another 'thing' I wanted rid of as I was no longer using it. A friend of mine was trying to get hold of a camper van as part of a project he's doing for charity. I'm actually feeling very lucky about that-I was a bit nervous about selling it to somebody I didn't know. It's been way to cold to use it this year anyway!I might get hold of another one for festival season, or I might just want to camp-it's less hassle sometimes I think.

There's more I want to write about but I can't, because if I do my hair might fall out (hairdye needs rinsing off!) so I had better leave it for now.
I do have another blog, which is one reason I don't write so much in this one, but as it's 'NSFW' if anybody does want that they can pm me. Nothing risqué as such on it but some content not favoured for some people.
Hope everyone is doing good and not being as affected as I am by the gloomy weather :)

I think that you sound like you might have SAD.....and yes, nocturnal working is a factor.
We have had a few very cold days but with brightblues skies and lots of very weak sunshine...but, you probably slept through them so not much good to you.
Great blog....I wish more people would blog.
It stimulates the memories that are in the deep recesses of the brain...and besides, I like reading about other peoples lives...mundane or not.
Keep it up Jen

I assume you used to do some nocturnal hours when you were working? So I guess you'll know about how it can affect you.

I'm lucky to be able to just give it a rest until I feel better.

I've always liked light. I don't like dark rooms, and I never turn the 'Big Light' (Lancs expression?!) off at night either.
I guess I may have slept through some of the nicer days, also it's been much colder and more dull in Yorkshire recently-than in Lancashire.

The lad is the opposite to me-he's painted the sitting room a dark red colour and has taken out the main light in favour of little spotlights, so this room's always going to be quite dark now even on a bright day. ... I wonder if we're the same species at all, sometimes!

I'm not a fan of spotlights anyway...In my experience they tend to be fiddly plus I'd rather have one lightbulb to be concerned about replacing , than ten of them :)

I used to think it was narcissistic to blog and feel I shouldn't do it-but I completely agree with you now. I like reading back over old ones, too-and I'm interested in people.

Hope you're having a nice day whatever you're up to :)

I like the light too...my other half will have the house like a cave if I let him....this I find oppressive.
Get a halogen heater...it heats the room at lower cost and the light is just wonderful.......I am sure my SAD has been better since we got one of these.

Thanks-I've just googled about those and I think they're a brilliant idea, particularly as until the fire in this place has had a service I'm a bit scared of using it. I'm going to Liverpool tomorrow, going to see if I can pick one up from somewhere! :)

Speak to one of the local Scallies & he'll probably be able to get you one for some smokes & a 6 pack of super strength Lager. ;)

Your username suggests you aren't that local though Dave
I have ordered one. I didn't think I had S.A.D because, I'm not feeling really sad or depressed or upset or anything like that-just a bit...'Flat'! Lol.
Upon googling though I've changed my mind.
I'd sooner spend some time in a sunny climate but himself is having passport issues, so not an option for now. I'm definitely going to make sure we do it next year though!

I went on Night shift for the firm I was working for just for a month they said .
I liked it so much I did 19 years on nights
