Charlie Caton thread

Home draw first up against a team, which should be knocking loudly at the door :)

Fair result I feel and for once, we got the bits of luck going our way :)

Well done to Charlie Caton on his two goals :)

:)

Typical.opening game I thought, lots of hoofing & head tennis at times but for the most part I thought we were the better team.
Ref didn't cover himself in glory, we're used to.that although he could've clamped down more on.Colchester's time wasting tactics & their no. 9's inclination to spend more time on his backside than his feet
Charlie played well, good to see him back fit & on form & the three newbies who.started blended in well, looks like they've gelled quickly
Jury's still out on Stockton - I know he wasn't on long but in Shania's words "That don't impress me much"

I couldn't believe or understand Stanley's marking for the free kick that led to Colchester's first goal. It seemed to be a weird hybrid of zonal and man marking, neither of which worked. Woods and Rawson were marking nobody. Just mad!
The second goal was equally bizarre. Surely the keeper should have caught that?

Otherwise I thought we did well and really deserved to win the game. Charlie Caton did well for his 2 goals. He seems on fire atm.

I don't think Stockton was on the pitch long enough to judge him yet. He put himself around and if his half volley had nestled in the top corner, then we'd all be laughing. I'd have liked to have seen him given at least 30 minutes today.

Disappointed we didn't win, which probably says it all. We probably played better today in spells than we played in any game last season. Agree with TM about Cole Stockton although he'll have "to be fed by his team members" if we want goals out of him. He'll never be a hard worker but will score "if provided with opportunities". Whalley is clever enough to work alongside Stockton but didn't get the chance today....

Charlie worked hard and was rewarded, I'm so pleased for him. Woods worked tirelessly today as usual .....if only he had a bit more.....you know!

I liked the look of Anderson, very promising. Keeper not up to Ollie's standard, but we were "spoilt last year". All the others performed well.

Still don't know why we can't defend set-pieces. It's a major weakness and will hamper us all year....the Management Duo should sort it out or find someone who can.

We still need a couple of forward thinking loanees "who can play mens football". I hope we get them.

Thought it was an excellent opening game. First half was hardly ?defend, defend, defend? Greger! Haven?t watched such fast, relentless attack from Stanley for some time. Two well worked and taken goals from Charlie Caton, and other good chances created. Caton and Woods were a real handful.
Colchester were clearly given a rocket and were stiffer opposition in the second half, with Stanley seemed to be tiring in last twenty minutes.
Really impressed with Anderson?s steady competence, Moore grew into it, but Stockton didn?t get enough time or service to judge him this early.
Well done to all the squad and staff for a good start to another season in the EFL.
