Mum went by herself to the hospital when the Doctor came to see her Brother-in-law this morning. I so wanted to go, but I only managed two hours sleep and then it took me another two hours for the first pill to kick in to let me get out of bed.

He's been sectioned for another twenty eight days, so it's very unlikely he'll be out for Christmas. There is a room you can book to use, so perhaps his grandchildren will be able to see their Gramps, but we'll just have to see.

Mum and I went to do some Christmas shopping this afternoon, but after just getting the essentials, we came home unable to muster the enthusiasm to get excited about Christmas. It's been an awful year for us, most of it spent going on hospital visits, or worrying about people in hospital. First Phoebe died in March, after becoming awfully confused with Alzheimers and having to go in a home, then my Nan's youngest sister died, the last of six remaining sisters. From March until she died in September, Aunt Ros was in hospital the majority of the time, and now her husband is in the mental health ward.

Last Christmas we had a fantastic Christmas dinner at Aunt Ros's house, it even snowed and was fairly perfect. This year my brother and his wife have offered to do it, even though in theory it isn't there turn. It's really generous of them, and will certainly be the best solution for what is going to be a fairly hard Christmas to get through.

Fingers crossed that 2006 will bring a bit more happiness than this year has.
