Because the last few weeks have been a bit fraught at times....I have resorted to therapy.
No...not the kind where you go to a pie-ciatrists office, lie down on a couch and go over the hot coals of your problems.
That is an expensive way to deal with problems.
My way is to set my brain free in the fields of flowers...die cut and hand coloured, in satiny ribbons, in clear embossing ink and shiny glittery embossing powder...in scissors and tacky glue....in stiff white cards and envelopes.
I had a card to make for a wedding...the request was that it would be personalised.
I made a card with a wedding cake, trailing flowers, pearl beads, organza ribbon.
I wrote a special verse....I wrote another verse with the names of the bride and groom....I trailed the edges of the parchment paper with liquid gold leaf.
Perhaps I should not say this, but it was a beautiful card...I hardly wanted to hand it over.
When the card was finished I realised that there was no way that it would go into an envelope.
Oh dear, that was a problem...what to do about this?
A box....I would make a box.
This was a textured creamy white and the card went in very nicely.
I made a cartouche for the front...it was die cut and had Mr & Mrs on it...and pearls at each corner.
The lady who requested it was delighted with it and gave me a healthy donation for Macmillan.
In the same week I was asked for two birthday cards...again, the remit was for them to be personal and(if possible) original verses.
I whizzed along with these two cards...they also needed to have boxes made...and again the person who requested them gave me a welcome donation.
Then I was asked for a masculine card....the lady told me it was for her husband...a mechanic.
So I made a toolbox card....with tools spilling out.
I showed her my design and she pulled out her phone and showed me the cake she had had made...and what do,you think....it was a toolbox with tools spilling out. She was surprised at how alike the card was to the cake.
Another satisfied donor.
All these have kept my brain off the other things which might have tied it in knots.
The other distraction was my digging into the past for rellies to bulk out my family tree.
It was ossy kid(Bryan) who lit the spark...he found some information that I hadn't got....and this meant that I spent a lot of hours over the Easter weekend looking at Ancestry.com.
This did not remove knots from my brain...it put a few knots in there...but they are different kind of knots.
I had a square bum, googly eyes....and a brain that ached from detective work, following leads, mental arithmetic....and investigating rabbit warrens of information.
Have I enjoyed it?
Hell, YES.
Did it help....absolutely.
Would I do it all again...in a heart beat.
So stay away from the couch...just use the easy chair and the laptop.
And if you want to see the fruit of my labours...have a look here.
