Do you think.......

I have time to read the works of Thomas Hardy before the 19th of June?

The next question is.......Do I want to read the works of Thomas Hardy before the 19th of June?

I have always shied away from the books by Thomas Hardy....fearing them to be too much like GCSE coursework.......and I think that perhaps this Victorian authors work might be just a tad heavy going.

Why am I asking these questions?
Well, you might know....I am to visit Thomas Hardy country......Dorset.
Weymouth to be precise. during this trip we are to go on days out to Dorchester....which is supposed to the setting for The Mayor of Casterbridge ....we also go to Sherborne.

I wonder if Ma is trying to educate me in my latter years.
Though I suspect that she would have gone anywhere really, without any regard as to its educational possibilities.
She has become restive over the past couple of weeks....and was positively joyful when I told her that Nicola had finished her studies at Uni....but brought her down to earth with a bit of a bump when I told her that she still had some clinics to attend.......her face looked like she had taken a bite out of an onion, thinking it was an apple.

Anyway, now the clinics are finished too, this means that I am free to resume the duties of wheelchair pusher.

Ma spent many a long hour trying to find something suitable in the trips department.
Was most dischuffed to find that she couldn't just say 'we'll have the trip to Tenby/Llandudno/Weston'.
I have tried to explain to Ma that with the current financial situation, the Euro, the flight disruptions, etc......more people are considering holidays in the Uk.......and coach holidays, which used to be seen as the domain of the doddery, have become popular with the younger folk too.
This is good for the coach companies, but frustrates Ma when she can't just book the holiday she has set her heart on.

Ma asked where I wanted to go.......I told her that it is fine by me, where ever we go, but again, I suggested somewhere not too far away.
When Ma Said we were going to Weymouth.......my brain thought Weston.
Ok, I know they don't sound anything like the same....and I thought to myself......'that's good, not much further than Bristol....Bristol, Yippee...we'll be able to have a day out to Bristol'

Then I looked at the map......Weymouth?
Weymouth is right down on the south coast, the Jurassic coast......that bit of England that in the dim and distant past was linked to the Isle of Wight........making the biggest lagoon in Europe.
Oh No, this was going to be another one of those bum numbing journeys of 12 hours duration....we could fly to Singapore in the time it takes to get to Weymouth...we could be half way to Oz....and in comfort too.
Two good things about this journey.....it takes place on a Saturday....and we stay for 8 days....so it gives Ma time to recover from the journey down....and the traffic coming back should be lighter than that on a late Friday afternoon when everyone is trying to get home from work.

So I will be missing for a week come the 19th of June......I will bring back pictures and any interesting happenings in Thomas Hardy country.
Oh, and if any of you have recommendations of a Thomas Hardy read.......then let me know...please.:)
