Donkey riding.

The tinlids couldn't wait to shovel their barm cakes down their gizzards......and the lemon and poppy seed muffins that were their 'afters'....you know, those two expect 'afters' after breakfast.

They were in a rush because they didn't want to miss the lady with the donkeys.

I told them that before we went down to the beach we had to go and look to see if we could find a replacement for the broken Dragon.

We set off to the dragon shop, well it sold all kind of things that I suppose you would call 'New Age'...incense crystals, lucky amulets (no they didn't have the lotto numbers engraved on the back) Tarot Cards...and then there were all manner of fantasy figures...but alas no two headed purple dragon with a shield and a sword.
This was looking like it was going to be a messy glueing job.

We went to the Pound shop, two duracell batteries for my little camera, a pack of glue...like araldite, but nowhere near as good......and the children picked up some beach squirters.....then we set off for the beach.

It was packed. The children ran to the waters edge and then ran back to me to give me their shoes...that was me then....Mrs Bottomless Purse and keeper of the shoes.

They set about filling these beach squirters(they were a bit like syringes) and then aiming the water at poor unsuspecting seagulls.....floating ones and walking ones.
They thought this was great fun. I sat there and watched them enjoying the late afternoon sun.

Then they saw the Donkeys.......so I was given their squirters to mind too....We made our way to the lady, they chose their donkeys and we paid the money.
Miss BD got up on the donkey like she was born to it...needed no help whatsoever.
Spindles was like a little prince...he waited to be hoisted into place by one of the strong lads helping out...had his feet placed in the stirrups and off they went.

The donkeys went a fair way, and as donkey rides go, it seemed very good value for money.
They walked towards the pier, and then ambled back again.
Miss Bd got herself off the donkey with the same ease she had got on, but the lad waited to be lifted off.

They said they had enjoyed their ride. Miss BD said she is going to have a horse of her own when she gets a bigger girl....I asked her if her daddy knew of these plans...'Of course he does...he says it is alright' Hmmmm! I think that might just have been a fiblet.

Donkey ride over they went back to the water, met up with another little boy with a squirter and proceeded to have a water battle.
In no time at all they were both pretty wet.

It was time to call a halt to the water play and go home for tea...they didn't want to go home....they wanted just five minutes more......they weren't ready for their tea.
So we stayed, not five minutes but something like half an hour.
They trudged happily back to the house...and again we had to go in via the side door.......wet sand and carpets...not a good mix.
I told them to strip off in the yard and put their clothes on the washing machine in the wash house. I was going to be doing the washing when they had gone to bed...but just now it was time for tea.

Coming soon 'That messy Glueing Job' AKA 'Fixing the Broken Dragon'

Glad to have awakened some memories for you Cashy.
It is good to remember the pleasant things from our past.
Our holiday was like an old fashioned one....ones from the dim and distant past.
Not the Costa del Expensivo with a dose of sunstroke and the toilet tango....donkeys,playing on the sand(when the tide went out ) ice creams and walks on the pier...don't forget the penny machines!

Glad that I have awakened some memories for you too walkinman.

Miss BD has been reading my blog today...she wasn't pleased about her nickname...but she enjoyed looking at the pictures and remembering how much fun we had.

She didn't mind me being called Mrs Bottomless Purse and reminded me that last year I was dubbed Mrs Fat-Bottom.... a memory of an elephant.
