Forgive me, but today I am feeling a bit on the maudlin side.
It was my uncle George's funeral today...he was 77 and I guess you could call that a good innings. I never actually thought of him as being old. He always seemed to have a 'young' outlook, a sense of fun.
He hadn't had an easy life. He lost his beloved wife 20 years ago, then he lost a grand-daughter and then his eldest daughter died in tragic circumstances......he put a brave face on for the public, but he never really got over these losses. he had been ill since Christmas, but was not expected to die.
His service was up at the crematorium in Accrington, and it was as cold as charity up there today.
I felt even sadder when I realised that it was sixteen years ago that I was there to say my goodbyes to my own dear dad(almost to the day)...so all the time the funeral service was going on, it wasn't Uncle George we were saying goodbye to, but my dad.
I felt very selfish when I realised this.
When I got back from the Crem, I noticed that my answerphone was flashing.
I almost deleted the message as I knew I had phoned our house for hubby to pick me up, I thought it would be that..... I played
the message and it was from family in Oz to tell me that my niece had lost her brother....he had died some three hours earlier.
What a sad sad day.
Rest in Peace, Uncle George and Max x x
