So Gordon Brown is the new leader of the Labour party - no contest.

But who will get the deputy job. Our own Greg Pope has supported Hilary Benn, Burnley's MP, Kitty Ussher and Rossendales MP Janet Anderson are backing Hazel Blears and Jack Straw hasn't said yet.

So, question to Greg, if the vote is thrown open to Labour party members, (will that happen?) why should my vote go to Benn - or anyone else for that matter?

Gayle, out of curiosity, should labour party members feel cheated they didn't get round to having a say in the new leader ?

Personally, I'm not that bothered. In some ways you have to say that it makes sense for the people with the most knowledge in this situation to make the decision. I suspect some people will feel cheated but I guess the outcome was always expected to be this one.

Yes, no surprises there then.
If he follows his promises to listen to the people, and give them more power and responsibility then maybe he will be able to restore some confidence in the party. We will just have to wait and see if he is as good as his word - or if talk is cheap, action expensive!

I dont trust him and proberly never will. Think the so called selection process was a sham. I would need to see the goods to consider a changing my views then it would have to be a miricle.

No Spuggie, I don't trust him either. But then I can't really point to a politician that I could trust to hold my glasses, let alone power over the country.

I dont think i even voted for tony blair back in whenever ive slept since then!!!

I feel cheated. I should have had the choice of voting for my leader.

And for all those that didnt know - i am a labour party member and have been since i was 16.

you only see them when they want your vote,s but they still only line there own pocket,s thats what i think any way

We all have a cross to bare.:D

its simple to me n i aint overkeen on him, but the guys got enough votes to make a contest a non event, let him get on with his plans whilst blairs away on his line yer pockets holiday.

All the political pundits are expressing suprise and regret that there won't be an election contest, but as far as I remember New Labour were quite clear of their intentions at the last General Election. Vote Tony, and you'll get Gordy half way through the term. No real big suprises here.

Apparently the Queen's quite keen on the canny Scot, as he's keen to keep the union of the United Kingdom, and doesn't favour anymore devolution.

I just hope he sorts out the fact that Scottish MPs can, and do, vote on issues which only apply to English law, and not Scottish.
