I have had a distinct lack of inspiration for my blog over the last few days. I toyed with the thought of putting some more Nursing tales on......but decided against it.
I thought I would ask you how hedonistic are you.......?
How seriously do you take your responsibilities.........?
Why am I asking these questions....?
It was the recent news article in the papers. The one where the 45 year old mother has cast aside all her responsibilities and gone off to Turkey to be with a 17 year old bar man.
Could you have done something like that....? Leave your 15 year old daughter with £35 and jet off with an elder daughter who also has a turkish boyfriend......?
I know that I couldn't do it.......and everyone here knows about my maternal instinct......or perhaps I should say the lack of it.
I think that I must have been born 'responsible'..........I know that as a child (well, you are still a child at the age of 11), I was charged with the responsibility of a baby brother......getting him up......making sure he had his bottle and getting him to the child minder before I went to school myself. I think this must have set the tone for my life.
Anyway back to this irresponsible 45 year old. She says this Turkish guy is the love of her life. Well, she should know.....she has five children all with different fathers........she is even considering becoming a muslim so that they can marry.
What are the odds that this relationship will fail.....? Pretty high I would say.
What makes this woman think that she has found MR RIGHT....? she has had five goes so far and not got the right one yet.
On her track record she couldn't pick her nose.
What kind of messages does this send to the 15 year old who has been left behind...allegedly because she stayed out drinking and smoking with a 'bad' crowd.
Has this 45 year old mother never considered that maybe her own feckless life style may have had something to do with how the 15 year old sees life?
It seems that there has been very little structure to this adolescents life, no stabilising influence, no ground rules.....so why should the mother be surprised that her 15 year old thinks it is fine to stay out all night....to drink, and to smoke.....might it just be because that is the only example she has ever had.
What a sad sad tale.
I thought I had a hard up-bringing.
The difference though was that I had two parents who showed by example what was right and what was wrong, was given boundaries and a life ethic.
I might have had to work within the family, to look after my brothers while my parents earned money to put food on the table......these are the things that give you a pride in yourself.
Money can't buy it.....!
