Hi Everybody

West Ender

I've just joined this site which I found by accident while looking up bits and bobs about Accrington.

As you'll have guessed I am, originally, from West End. I was born there in 1943 (but don't tell anybody) and lived there until 1962 when I married. I went to St Marys School, then Paddock House. I've lived in various counties in England but for the past 30 years I have been here in Cheshire.

I have lots of memories of Accrington; meeting friends on "the deck" on a Saturday (do people still do that?), the old open-air market, the Wayside coffee bar (1 cup of coffee could last all evening), the Odeon with its café. I don't suppose I'd recognise the place now.

Nice to meet you all. I'll talk to you again soon.

Hello Westender and welcome. Hope you enjoy the site, you may find both old and new friends here.:D

Hello Mez

We just might know each other. I left St Marys in 1954, to go to Paddock, from Mrs Harrison's class when the head teacher was Miss Heaney. I believe Fred VanDome became head, later. Do you want to pm me with more info?

Hi, Welcome to the site, I used to be married to a lad from west end......bit younger than you though ........

I just want to say how much I'm enjoying this website. It's good to "hear" people talking about places I used to know so well - it makes me feel quite nostalgic.

Nice to be made to feel so welcome. Thanks. :)
