Well if I remember a bit about history we did beat the Germans twice when it really mattered 1914/18 1939/45

Will try and dig out a photo of the Hotel International in Dieppe - last time we stayed there.
All the flags outside the hotel - Canadian and all EU flags except the German one. I asked about the omission and was told that a German flag would never fly above that town again - they have long memories and the Canadians and Brits are thought of very highly.
