Another threat just as dangerous, is discussing your business round a pub/club bar, familiarity is the ally of the house thief, talking about what you posses, when you are going on holiday when your house is empty, if you live on your own they already know where you are. In these days of mobile phones etc they can even relay information about where you are whilst they burgle your property, remember "a closed mouth catches no flies".

there is an awarness advert on tv atm about just that, showing the valuables & the weaknesses of yr house/car, even about leaving a mobile about & flashing it around:rolleyes:

My car/door keys are either in my pocket when I am dressed or under my pillow when I’m asleep. So any thief will have to get past me to get at them. Not difficult at my age I know but at least I will know if someone tries to steal them and I might be able to get the first blow in. Across the throat or jugular with the edge of an open hand would be a good place.

“But your honour - I just lashed out to try and protect myself. Surely I’m allowed to do that? I didn’t intend to crush his windpipe/jugular. Sorry!”

You are quite correct accymel, but next time you go in a pub or club, just as an exercise see how lax people are and how they like talking about what they have ,(even on here).

LOL luckily im not a bragger & usually behind everyone else in the 'latest' this or that stuff ratrace, so have nowt of value other than my kids & gee nobody wants to take them away heheheheheehe:D

Phishing phone calls seem to be on the increase these days not to mention the phishing knock on the door.

They know your name and phone number because more often than not it is in the ‘book’. Or you could get one that starts:
“Mr Jones?” when your name is something else.
Far too many people will answer no it’s …………and give their real name.

If anyone rings me and asks for me by name or the name of someone else I NEVER answer the question but ALWAYS come back with, “Who is speaking?” all polite and innocent like.

Then depending on who it is or how I feel at the time they get told to go away or …. Well you put your version in here.

I don't have a shredder!!! BUT I burn everything on my open fire. Now even that's dodgy, because if Mary poppin's wanted to steal my I.D she would have very easy access. :D:D

Might have to re-think this way of throwing my I.D away.

do you lot who burn stuff realise just how much carbon you are polluting our atmosphere with!!!

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

My phone number is not in any books or is even in my name, that keeps a lot of time wasters off your back, another one is answering the phone with an abrupt "we dont need any", also "this call is being recorded for training purposes" any one who's really bothered phones again.

I’d like to see some torag nick my telly. It’s only a 27” wide screen one but boy is it heavy. It took my son and adult grandson to lift it onto its stand. I was stood back directing operations.

I dread having to get one of those new fangled plasma sets when eventually my current set dies. I’ll have to nail it down.

That actually happened to us - they must have scarpered when the burglar alarm went off and they left us with a Sony Walkman - still playing, and a hacksaw. The police found it vey amusing, a robbery where the victim ends up better off. :D

It's a wonder the would be thieves did not find a solicitor to sue you for inverted theft.:D.

Do you realise by whining at me you're giving me a headache :D:D

That was slick slinky! I must admit I too burn most of my significant papers and mailings. I'm not quite sure what is worst, burning the small bit down to a small pile of ash or sending it off to clog up the landfills. or worst yet, the dumping station hauling it all off to be incinerated up the road.

I shred everything that contains my name address and account details, and it all gos in the white sack, mine also shreds credit cards etc and cd,s:D

I only shred parts of any document that has my details on it......and I bought a very dinky little manual shredder for a quid......it is perfectly fine for the job......it takes ages to build up enough to send a parcel.....then it is someone else's rubbish to dispose of.

I frequently have phone calls asking for Mr Rashid, or Mr Iqbal...and when i say that no-one exists by that name at this address...they ask to speak to the person that the house belongs to....then they ask if we have a mortgage.......I always say YES....then they ask for the details and I ask for them to hold the line while I go and get them...then I put the phone on 'silent' and go and make a cup of tea....after a variable length of time I go and put the handset down. :)
