I worked for a few night shifts during which time, my lovely colleagues managed to wear me down and convince me to see my GP. I duly made an appointment on my day off, about a week after I had had the pain. It was really strange when I told my GP what had happened as I became quite distressed recounting the pain.

My GP is a patient soul and listened and nodded at all the right bits. She did my blood pressure, had a listen to my chest, had a good prod about at my abdomen, couldn't find anything specific. She reassured me that it may have been a one off oesophageal spasm but, seeing as I'd never had any blood tests done there, 'we'll do some bloods and an ECG'.

I went in to see the nurse, who I know from my days of doing the Antenatal Clinic in that surgery. She asked what I'd been up to, did my ECG which was normal and took loads of blood. I was literally investigated to the nth degree. Thankfully all my bloods came back normal, even my liver function which clearly proves that I'm not drinking nearly enough alcohol and should try harder..:D I was reassured by my normal results and tried to put the pain behind me and cart on as normal.

A few weeks later, Sparks and I were going on a day out to Edgbaston. We were going to watch Lancashire in the cricket T/20 finals. We got up at the crack of dawn, Sparks made loads of bacon and sausage sarnies to take with us, I packed up some fruit, we shoved everything in the car and off we went.

We had a lovely time watching the cricket, in between showers that is. Sparks handed me a sausage butty to tuck into late morning and we had some bottled water. Within an hour of the butty, I started to get pain. Not as intense as the first time but spasm in my chest/upper abdomen, feeling a bit nauseated and unwell. I watched Lancs lose their game whilst I was rocking in my seat. Due to the inclement weather we decided to come home. All I wanted to do was get home, take some pain killers and lie down. I rocked all the way home in the car. Sparks was driving and he knew I had pain. I told him it was probably bad indigestion but that it could be Biliary Colic. I would have some Zantac and pain killers when we get home and see how I go.

Well, things settled a bit with the pain killers and I managed a couple of hours nap and woke up feeling fine so I thought I'd just see how I went on.

A couple of days later on August bank holiday, I was just watching the TV in the evening, minding my own business when....... The bloody pain came again. I shovelled down some Zantac and a couple of Paracetamol and went to bed. Well, I tossed and turned, the pain kept getting stronger so I got up and took a Voltarol tablet, washed down with 2 Codeine. Nothing was touching this pain. I got back in bed, started sweating and feeling really sick, unable to put myself in a comfy position. I was up and down like a bride's nighty.

Well all the tossing and turning woke up my beloved....... Sparks, who tends not to mince his words, said
'if you don't get in the bloody car now, I'm calling an Ambulance.'

Well, I had to admit defeat at that and succumb to the ministrations of A&E.....:o

Oh, Lettie......what a time of it.
But....it does my heart good to read that you needed to be cajoled to go and seek professional advice. It is really good to know that I am not alone in my reticence to 'bother' the doctor :)

Great blog...more please!
