It's what WE make it.....

Christmas...that is.
It is what WE make it. If we fail to plan and prepare, then we prepare and plan to fail.......or that was what was indoctinated into me when I was working.
Have some Kind of plan......but have a second option up your sleeve just in case.

Jason was saying a few weeks ago that christmas is stressful....and I guess that to a point he was right....but only because the media set us up to fail.......and also it doesn't help that most men do not even give Christmas a thought until about 6pm on Christmas Eve....and then the thought is 'I think I will go to the pub and have a beer to celebrate Christmas'.
Meanwhile back in the real world the lady in his life is trying to stuff a fifteen pound bird into her little oven(it needs more Vaseline to get that in there, dear).

The children are bouncing off the walls with excitement of the visit of the man in the red suit.
The dog has eaten several of the chocolate decorations off the tree...complete with the silver paper.....and is (thankfully....because chocolate is poison to mutts and it will save a big vets bill) being sick into his masters slippers(that'll be a nice surprise on christmas morning...especially if he had a skinful and feels like death warmed over).
There are a mountain of spuds to peel, the presents to wrap and the children to bath and put to bed.
Both sets of parents are coming to Christmas dinner...and his mum will be very sniffy over the bread sauce.

So it isn't really any wonder that Christmas is not something that is anticipated with great glee by the lady of the house.......and she suspects that he has bought her a steam generator as her christmas present....despite heavy hints that she would like Lady Millions perfume.(If that were me, he would need a skilled surgeon, his team and a few sharp implements to get it out of the place I would shove it)
She will be up at the crack of sparrowf*rt.....the children will see to that. He will doze on.....and when he rises will expect something cooked and crispy and a big mug of something to wash it down(alka seltzer?)
She will be expected to shine and sparkle, be the best hostess ever.....when all she really would like to do is retire to the boudoir with a nice book and a mega sized bar of Galaxy.......and perhaps a glass of something chilled.

My Christmas will not be perfect (in the magazine sense), but it will be the Christmas that I planned(plan b is, if the meat hasn't thawed, then corned beef hash will be served...and no doubt enjoyed). It won't be a big family meal, it will be just the two of us.....we will eat a Roast dinner of some description and then no doubt he will fall asleep in front of the TV.
Presents......I don't usually get any from himself...but whatever I get from anyone else will be welcome, because if it is something that doesn't appeal to me, I know it will appeal to someone(I have no problem with recycling gifts...and the giver should feel proud that I salute their taste...and feel comfortable to give it on)

I'm still not quite there......I did make a half hearted start on bagging and wrapping presents midweek.....but there are still a couple of 'problem' family members to buy for (MEN, of course).......and this should be sorted in the next 48 hours.

I will be pleased and happy this time next week, because it will all be done and dusted and we can get back to some kind of normal again......and I'll be able to find mousebait in the shops.

agree with that ... remember a couple of years ago being accosted by a security guard when the spugster took me for a walk round to the kelpies .. we don't have them down here do we ... you have to go north of the border for them .. :D

you've forgotten the sitting down to watch the queens speech ... isn't that tradition .. and the movie afterwards:D
