I set off to Reims on friday morning, 7.15am in order to get petrol and avoid the rush hour traffic. I switched on the car radio to hear Century FM saying that the traffic on the M60/62 was already building up, which was a bit of a bugger considering that I was flying from Leeds/Bradford.
I took a different route and went through Colne towards Keigthly, through Silsden and Ilkley and down past Otley to the airport. They are all little A roads and I had no problems with traffic flow. The scenery was lovely and wintery with frost on the hills and fields and a low mist. We really do live in a lovely country I think sometimes that we just can't be bothered to see it.
Leeds/Bradford airport is really nice. Small and friendly with a few shops and a couple of bars, easy car parking (cheaper than Manchester) and a little courtesy bus to take you from your car to the terminal which is a mere 2 minute walk away.
My flight was on time and very smooth. We had just flown over the Channel when we started our descent into Paris. From above I could see beautiful white fluffy clouds as far as the eye can see. I knew that the plane would have to go through them in order to land, so I was expecting a bit of turbulence. As the plane descended into the cloud it remained smooth. The cloud turned from white to deep grey and it looked rather dark and miserable. As soon as we were free of the cloud, the runway of Charles de Gaulle was coming right at us and we had a perfect landing only taking an hour and 5 mins........I was still dying for a pee though.
Sparks picked me up from the airport and drove me to Reims. He had to go straight back to work, so I got settled in at the hotel and decided to go and explore........
