Learning to zoom

If I say that when I heard that the Thanksgiving service for Ma and all of the other Silent Teachers was going to be Zoomed...my heart sank...it is not an understatement.

I am not technophobic and I have ( I think) managed technology well...considering my age(yes, age does come into it).
I felt like there was an essence in this of getting it wrong...and my learning over the years has been errorful....It seems that I get it wrong first and then learn how to get it right.

I was told by my niece, Harley( a newly qualified Doctor...though not in medicine...but she has brains where most of us just have flesh) that it was easy.
She had been conducting seminars and conferences via this media since the start of the year.....so she was very experienced.

The other drawback(well for me...the obstinate, set in her ways old baggage that I am) was that I had to download an APP.

Now I hate apps....and I cannot give you any reason other than the word turns my screw in the way that the letters EU do....and I know that I should never give power to such things, but I just can't help it...we all have things in our lives that are illogical pejudices.

Anyway, I gritted my teeth and downloaded the thing.
There was to be a rehearsal the week before.
We were sent instructions passwords...you know the sort of thing that is required when you have to use an APP.

I felt sure that I would make a ducks foot of all this....I went over to Daughters...she had downloaded her thingy...and told me it was easy.

When the time came I used the log in details, submitted the password and was ushered into a 'virtual waiting room'.
I t was not like any other waiting room I had ever been in before...it was just a screen with the logo on it...but then this screen sprang to life and I was able to see people I had only, so far had names for.
I could see them...i could hear them...my goodness, this was actually going to work for me.....well, except they could neither see me or hear me...i was, to them a faceless screen with just my name on it.

so where had i gone wrong?
Well it was not until the whole thing was over that I was informed that I needed to give my camera and Microphone permission to be used bu zoom.
well at least the rehearsal had taught me something...and it meant that when the real thanksgiving was beamed I would be there both in sight and sound.

I was still nervous on the day of the Thanksgiving...I believe in Murphy's law....but Everything went off really well.
I could see Harley sat in the living room of her home in Brussels.....I could see my sister Nessa and her husband in their living room in Brisbane...and the service went off beautifully.
The hour just sped by and before I knew it the ceremony was closing......and I had Zoomed without a hitch.

Well Cashy...Had Ma's Thanksgiving Service not been on Zoom, I would not have known anything about it either.
And It gave me a strong sense of heart sink because I did not know if I would get the hang of it.
Had i not done...well, I would have missed the most uplifting and touching non religious service I have ever seen.
So, I might never use it again, but if I have to then I know that I CAN

its good that you done it margaret i am absolutely useless with new technology so i just dont bother at all if i can help it, me stress levels are very low anyway.

Cashy, It was important to me...so although I was not confident...I had to give it a go...and I am so very glad I did. It gave me a different perspective on things.
To hear those medical students talk wit affection about their 'silent teachers' was gratifying and humbling at the same time.
