Mobile Phones......

Mobile phones...they are still frustrating me.

I haven't been out this weekend......I know, it is a sin and a crime to have a new camera and a sunny weekend and not make use of it.

I think they must have cut some of the grass verges on the motorway on Friday......and our neighbours cut their back lawns too...so Saturday I was paying for it.
My eyes were running constantly...they felt as if my eyeballs had been rolled in sand.
My throat was sore too and I was reall snotty again. And I HAD taken my anti-histamines too...so how bad would I have been had I not taken them.

Because of this I stayed indoors with the windows closed.

If you have read my previous blog you will know that I was trying to sort out a mobile phone for an old lady that we shop for and generally keep an eye on.
Himself had toddled off to the Vodafone shop on Friday and come home without any sort of success.

Saturday he tried the same job again. I told him to tell the girl in the shop that the phone was on Vodafone...it had Vodafone promotional messages on it as well as the start up screen.
I told him to ask her to put a sim in it and £30 of credit.

When he came back I could not believe what she had fobbed him off with.
He had told her that I had said the phone was on Vodafone and asked her to put a sim in the phone.
She told him he would have to come back and ask what Network the phone was on.....she told him that 02 was a network, but Vodafone was not a network......she also wanted to charge him £10 for a sim card.
He baulked at that and came home no nearer to having this phone up and running than he had on the previous day.

Well, my patience was abit short so to say I was fuming was an understatement.
He also said the girl laughed at him when he told her that I had said the phone was on the Vodafone network.....and implied that I didn't know what I was talking about.
Not impressed, not a bit impressed.
Anyway, I took my sim card out of my phone and put it into the mobile...and the phone worked.
Today I have bought a sim card in Asda. I have put it into the phone, I have phoned Vodafone to get a swipe card and on Wednesday himself is going into Blackburn with the said phone, sim card in it, to top up some credit and show the girl that the phone IS on the Vodafone Network......and I think he might just give her a piece of his mind.

Have you ever heard of anything so crazy and mixed up?

I told him that had he been going in to the shop to get himself the newest Iphone she would have danced attendance on him...but because it is just a bog standard 'no money in it' phone......she just couldn't be bothered.

Smart phones and daft folk!

I would only consider a phone 'smart' if it vacummed the house and did the ironing!
So until they can do these jobs I won't be having one.

That girl at the shop sounds arrogant and incompetent. I felt ticked off too when I plonked my old Nokia on the counter of the Bell Mobility store and said I wanted something like it. The young person behind the counter couldn't quite contain a guffaw. She had never seen such an antique, I guess! Me and the phone :)

Well Carolyn, the young seem to know everything, are contemptuous when we oldies have something to say(I should have said many young folk - because I know they aren't all the same)....and the service we received at the Blackburn shop bears no resemblance to service I have had in other Vodafone shops...in Bury, Blackpool and Llandudno.

I think that they forget that word of mouth is a very important advertising tool.

When I rang Vodafone today to get a swipe card to top up the phone, the young man (Gavin - with a lovely scottish burr) was kind and helpful. I am courteous and I expect courtesy back.

I love dealing wi clever beggers like her, Me training in diplomatic services does me really well.:D

I can imagine Cashy.....I really can.
You would have told her where to go so gently that she would have looked forward to packing for the trip :)

I have an iPhone it was on contract with orange (EE)
the contract was up so I called orange and asked to go on pay as you go but to keep the same number
orange said no problem and would put a new sim and card in the post
this arrived on Monday I took the old sim out and put the new one in and it came up no service
being on here I need my phone in case of site problems so as I was on my way to town I called in the orange (EE) shop on Broadway he checked and found out the sim had not been activated this should have been done before I got it
they sorted it and even put £5 credit on it for the inconvenience they could not have helped more great service

Mick, that is good to hear.
I am still no nearer with this phone problem.
I bought a SIM card, got a swipe card sent.....phoned Vodafone to activate it and got asked a load of security questions....which I couldn't answer as this phone has laid in a drawer unused since 2007/2008.
I was asked when the last text message was sent....in the end I told the guy to forget it......I would bin the( blaspheming) thing......and buy a new one on a different network as I was thoroughly dischuffed with Vodafone and their 'help'.

Anyway, Ma has now said she will have a mobile.......so I might have to go through all this again(I don't think!)
