Moving day......again!

It was clear by the middle of the second week that the building work would not be completed by the 19th of December.....the date we were due to vacate Toad Hall.
I had actually spoken to the owner and she said that if we needed to extend our occupancy then as long as the place hadn't been booked by someone else.......and what do you know......the place had been booked on the day we were told that the work would need to continue for another week....or up to Christmas Eve.

It was not feasible to return home as there were no floors down.
The damp proof course had been done but wasn't dry......the boiler had been delayed. In general it wasn't going our way at all.
Himself was most peeved about it all......and even more peeved when I told him that where ever we rented, we would be paying a premium for the let being in what was seen as the festive week.

I found a little cottage in Trawden.
According to the Internet it was available, but I had trouble booking it as the Internet connection kept dropping out.
I had to wait until I came over to daughters to try and book the place.
The other imbuggerance was that this property did not allow pets.
Anyway, I gave the guy at the booking agents the full story of how we were going to be like Mary and Joseph over Christmas......looking for a place to lay our heads(though I seriously hoped that I would not be giving birth-I really am past all that).
The chap said he would ask the owner if she would make an exception due to our circumstances.

The lady must have been touched by the story, because she said that we could take Pasha with us.......and even better, we could move straight from Toad Hall to their cottage.

I paid the dosh and breathed a sigh of relief.
At least we were going to be comfortable.....and we could take Pasha with us.

Himself was irritated by the move.....but he did help with the packing and loading of the car......and the unloading at the other end.
He did criticise bits of the cottage and said that it wasn't worth the money...But to me, it was worth every penny to have our own space.

All of a sudden the work seemed to take off......the slow bit was like the roller coaster going up the steep incline to the top....once at the top the work gathered speed.
I went over to the house and half of the living room floor was down, the ingle nooks had been completed.......and the hearths had been set.
Himself still thought it would be about another two weeks before we could move back and was not a happy chappie.
The builder told me that 99.9%of the work would be completed by Christmas Eve.
I believed him.....as I could see the progress that been made.

So we had a week in Trawden....The good part was that the TV signal was better.....and I had a good wifi signal.......so he could watch Sky programmes.
That put a smile on his face......something of a novelty.
The cottage was lovely. It had everything we could possibly need.....And the bed was as comfortable as our own at home.
On the Sunday we went to the Trawden Arms for a Sunday Roast......very leisurely, with no washing up.
I had two large glasses of wine and was totally relaxed when we got back to,the cottage.....so relaxed that I nodded off on the soft squishy leather sofa.
The days were still busy, as each day we still had to come over and check on Ma...do the things that she needed.
It was a good job I had got Christmas all sorted as this extra stuff might just have pushed me over the edge.
To be continued.
