My election address

My election address to the people of St Andrews is going out over the next couple of days. This is it in full.

Dear Resident

I am looking forward to the local elections on Thursday May 4th and I am delighted to have been selected as the Labour Party Candidate for St Andrew’s ward in Oswaldtwistle.

I have lived most of my life in Oswaldtwistle (I’m 41 now) and even persuaded my husband Chris to move here from Blackburn when we got married (he didn’t take much persuading). My eldest child goes to school in the area and will be joined by my youngest this September. My parents also still live in Oswaldtwistle.

For many years we have had a town wholly represented by Conservative Councillors. In this time we have seen amenities close, streets become dirtier and the youth problem escalating. This is not acceptable!

I will not make false promises to you! I will address the issues that really matter to you. Issues like parking around the Civic Theatre, the gangs of youths, litter, dog poop and the problems with the old Fire station building and the Palladium; issues that should have been dealt with a long time ago. It is very nice to have hanging baskets and attractive Christmas lights in an area but we need to really tackle the issues of safety and cleanliness first.

Along with my husband I am involved in a number of community groups in the town and have just help secure funding to set up a young persons amateur dramatic group and to help my daughters school build an eco playground. I am also involved in a number of Hyndburn wide groups. If elected I will make a point of working with community groups to ensure that they get all funding available and to make better use of community venues and activities.

I will do this because I want to make a difference to the lives of the you, the people who live in Oswaldtwistle by providing more and better amenities for you. I will also do this because I live in the heart of this area and I want to make Oswaldtwistle a better place to live for my own children as well. Your issues are my issues and I will strive to work hard for all of us.

There is a lot of work to be done in Oswaldtwistle and hopefully, with your support, I will be able to achieve great things. I hope you can see your way to supporting me on Thursday 4th May.

Best wishes

Gayle Knight

I got mine yesterday.
I thought it was excellent. It stresses realistically what you hope to achieve, without resorting to trashing the opposition, unlike some people.;)
