November started today.
The dark days of winter are already here.
The last week of October drenched us through with barely a glimpse of daylight.
I dread this time of year.
I am badly affected by the lack of light.
I do not mind it being cold, but damp grey days fill me with gloom.
The beckoning finger of Christmas brings a little relief, inasmuch as it takes preparation and that takes your mind off the grey expanse outside.
The shops are gaudily decorated too...which is another oasis in a desert of grey.
However, this year added to the climatic gloom, we are faced again with restrictions on what we can do.
We have been told that From midnight on Thursday we are under National lockdown until the second of December....but that it is not at all certain that this lockdown will not be extended beyond that.
Pubs will close at what would be the busiest time of year.
You cannot go and get your hair cut(it is 12 months since mine was cut, so I am increasingly looking like a busted sofa.
I will not wear a mask so I cannot go and get my hair cut). All the shops that are deemed not essential will close....so if you have not bought your Christmas party Frock, you are out of luck....well, except that this year there will be NO party.
All this just magnifies my gloomy mood.
I can see nothing at all to carry me through these dark months.
We have done this before.
We had a three month lockdown.
And with my hand on my heart I observed the rules.
But it did no good.
This will be just the same.
The restrictions will at some point be lifted and because we have been on house arrest, we will succumb to whatever bug or virus is out there.
All of these illnesses will be put down to Covid...whether they are that or not....so we will be in another cycle of rising infections yet again.
All this is disastrous for the population, in both economic and health terms.
So I can see no light on the horizon.
On another note entirely.
Yesterday saw the death of Sean Connery.
Ok he was 90 and had been diagnosed with dementia.
His death was a kindly one it seems....he just went to sleep and did not wake.
I feel sure that if we could choose how to leave this earth, then that would be favourite.
I was never really a fan of James Bond, but in my head there was only one James Bond....and he was Sean Connery.
No other actor has come close....and as for Daniel Craig, I never thought of him as the right man for that role....he never made me swoon.
So RIP Sean.....your films will live on.
