Post Deliveries

Will someone tell me whats going on with the post at the minute?

I've just had my post delivered at 15.45. Last October and November the post was delivered roundabout 9.30am. December it got a bit later about 12 -12.30 which i expected especially coming up to christmas. But now in the new year they seem to be getting later and later. Last friday it was 3.30 yesterdays post was at 12.30 thought oh its getting back to normal... and today its now quarter to four. Oh Saturday when i got the post it was about 12 o clock. I always thought postmen finished around 2pm seeing as they started early in the morning.

Our delivery times have been erratic since last august, arrives at all times and seems to be different postmen everyday.

I quite often don't get mine till the afternoon - don't know why it is so erratic now.
Is there a postie on the forum who can explain?

Mine came at 2pm & has been coming erratic as well bet 10.30am earliest some times to 2-2.30pm lately:(

Id expect it as something to do with the amount of things to post. For example if one postman cover 40 streets he might have to do 20 then go back and then do the other 20. Plus postmen work 2 different shifts so in theory you could get it at 6PM

good question jen,:D have great doubt you'll get an answer ours is very erratic, between 10-00 n 14-40, but the junk mail is more consitent:D

Possibly a shortage of posties. the other day our postie was still delivering mail late afternoon, nowhere near his usual round, so either he was covering for someone off sick, or grabbing a bit of overtime.

not is only the post delivered any time after 2-30 i have to do his job delivering someone else"s post that has been put in my letter box not even our number there name and address. do they want us to do there job now.. bring our postie back he was a great postman......its the same everywere i live in lowton near newton-le-willows :tongueout [burt]

So asking about deliveries the reply is an automated one - one which doesnt apply to the email i sent which they apologise for in advance. It also doesnt give you an email address to send it to - just back to the automated one. Anyway see what happens.

on slightly positive note
just received mail today 3.00 pm and received mail
posted in rawtenstall this very morning WHY cant
it always be like this ?

I think it's all to do with one of the changes in working hours. Pretty sure they are no longer allowed to finish work when the round is finished and therefore they take their time. Also recall something about not being able to leave the sorting office before a certain time as well.

I also heard they are not supposed to leave sorting office before 10am and anyone wanting delivery before a certain time has to pay for the priviledge

I used to get my mail and sometimes someones elses at a totally different address, at about 8.30am, now im lucky if i get it at 13.30:rolleyes:, also used to get afternoon post as well, but that as now stopped!...well not really, i now get it in the afternoon :p

I also remember hearing that their hours have changed and that they start later and finish later now...come on AW posties, put us right :D

as ours is a "road" we regularly get letters for a "street" of the same name as our road, postcodes are entirely differant, many of em are from banks or financial institutions, i have reposted em, delivered em if i'm up that way, complained to the GPO, still the same, this has gone on for last 6/7 yrs i have been here, i suppose if i opened em i would have these poor buggars details, its been gone down the pan for years has the postal service.:(

In the 1800's in London , they had 9 postal deliveries a day! So much for progress
In 1800s london there was no such thing as the internet or emails.

I work for royal mail and yes the service may be poorer but thats down to the management at the very top who come up with these stupid ideas so they can save money but they ruin the service,The postal times have changed to an hour later quite recently ago and alot of deliveries have been changed and also made longer. The time you get your mail just depends where you are on the posties route as somedays i start posting the mail at my first house at 10am but don't get to the last one until 2pm or even later sometimes if its really busy.I can agree with you all though that some of the posties are pretty shoddy,we have a few at our office(Me not included):D

Having work for RM for more years that I care to remember (not any more though, I've left) most of them involved in management I have some qualification in explaining what has happened to deliveries recently. I am not defending the business at all here but just to offer a little background info:
Since around 1995 and until the introduction of the single daily delivery (last couple of years) the average number of letters being taken out on 2nd delivery was eleven, predominantly second class letters with a combined revenue value (price of the stamps) of around £2. A postmans hourly rate would be for arguments sake £7.50 and he / she would have around 2 hours paid time left in the day to deliver these 11 letters. Simple maths dictates that the second delivery was no longer viable.
Massive improvements in national distribution networks mean that presently there is no mail available for what was once the second delivery. In order to maintain full time posts for staff the only option was to extend deliveries from 2.5 to 4 hours spans. Your postie no longer has to get up at 4am as most now work a more conventional day. The customer percecption is valid, espescially if you once got an earlier delivery, However Pillar Box to doorstep quality is higher than it has ever been. Unfortunately misdeliveries remain a problem, perhaps better training in needed.
Hopefully I have shed a little light on a sensitive issue.
