Productive day

Well, after yesterdays oversleeping fiasco, I went back to bed at 11pm and managed to sleep like a log until 7am (assisted by half a bottle of shiraz). I must have needed the kip. Got loads done today, my Asda shop, some washing and cleaning, had a good walk with the dog and managed to get my hair cut. I have even done nearly 1000 words of my assignment. Just another 3000 words and references to go, but at least I've made a start. Everyone is starting to say I look tired, went to see Grego last night who commented and my hairdresser today said she'd never seen me look so knackered. They are having half price decleor facials during February at the beauty salon above my hairdressers so I've booked one for next week. They are £20 when they should be about £40 so I thought I'd treat myself. I have had a couple there before and it is just so relaxing.
I'm beginning to wonder whether this new job is worth the effort. My temporary contract expired at the end of November and hasn't been renewed. I am still doing the job and only received the expired contract in January to sign and it stated quite clearly that I would return to my old job on expiration of the contract. This is just typical of big organisations. The last person they did this to ended up doing the job for 18 months and it was only a 6 month contract. She was just told one day that she was permanent. I do enjoy being on delivery, but I enjoyed being on the teams and actually being able to deliver ladies. I only get deliveries these days if a lady actually walks in with the head in her knickers and I get a quick catch. Whenever I start doing any sort of task I am disturbed, "can I have the keys?" "DG is on the phone" "can you speak to the electricians?" "can you come and look at this perineum" and a thousand other distractions. There were 2 of us on duty the other week so I insisted on looking after someone in labour and nearly killed the other core midwife in the crush to get to a lady who was looking decidedly uncomfortable. Ended up with a lovely delivery and it was an absolute pleasure. I just wonder when my next one will be.

Lettie, nothing changes very much in the NHS does it......don't let them take you away from what you love. It is the reason you do the job. I became very disillusioned with everything when they tried to move me away from patients....I put my foot down and was involved in patient care until I retired. You really do sound like you need that holiday.... but until that arrives enjoy the facial. (anyway..... thought DG had retired)
