Resting in Peace
Overlooker
The match between Inverness Cally Thistle v Celtic kicked of at 12 noon today so I watched the first have on ESPN, this was between first and second in the league, Celtic ran out 3-1 winners opening up an 18 point gap at the top. I never had much faith in Scottish football prior to the demise of Rangers, but its now a really Micky mouse league, can anybody remember the last team to win the top division in Scotland other than Celtic and Rangers, I'm having trouble, and as for Rangers in the Third Div. its about a standard below the conference

the last 4 years the standard of football has been not very good in the spl this season has been a joke since the only show in town has not been there .the full of the spl only had 29,000 spectators today while rangers got 46,000.we will win the 3rd but next year if they dont change the leagues we might struggle as i dont rate mcoist as a manager hes a coach but management is a step too much.the standard of football aint up to much and most are part time.at least scottish clubs are starting to try and bring young players through instead of blowing wages on over rated players from abroad.the future who knows .rangers are playing mostly under 21 players.

Sevco are focusing too much on attendances rather than revenue. Every team in the world would amass capacity crowds with ticket prices like these!

Rangers are very a poor team in a very poor league, my original point was, that because of Rangers mismanagement and their subsequent demise to obscurity, the Scottish Premier league is now a one horse show instead of two, Rangers and Celtic have always been head and shoulders above anything else in Scotland, in fact I can't remember the last winners of the title outside the top two. Rangers thrive off Celtic and Celtic off Rangers, pity that of it isn't about football but bigoted religious factions. I've been an honorary member of the Celtic S.C. since 1970 when I worked at their supporters club down the road from Park Head, but watching the game yesterday and the subsequent 18 point gap and virtually a place in the champions league is making Scottish football a laughing stock

it pains for me to admit but celtic arent doing too bad in the champions league.you shouldnt tar everybody with the same brush .i support rangers because my family come from drumoyne govan.there is bad in every football support whether it be racist or sectarian .

To be a honest C'mon I didn't realise just how bad it was until I saw it for myself, the Rangers Celtic issue, puts United Liverpool totally in the shade, they're like pussy cats in comparison. the thing that really opened my eyes was when I worked at Celtic S.C. We were refitting the concert room upstairs full refit bar ceiling wall panels the lot. I was fitting the bar shutters, in those days the law only allowed a opening of 4 feet then there had to be a 12" solid pillar, which we made as a horra glass screen. There was a panel around 9" square in Blue, a committee man came over and said you'll have to change that, why I asked, it will last two minutes on opening night before somebody puts their fist through it, so we sent down to William St for another in Green. Right at at end of the job the last day the carpet fitters arrived brought in the carpet, Royal Blue, I called the same committee man over and asked him what was going on, he just said, you walk on that:eek: ya couldn't make it up. Three weeks later I was on a snagging trip around Scotland and we called at the club to replace a handle on a bar drawer, when I went in I've never seen anything like it, I just said to my mate how old do you think that carpet is, two years he said, no three weeks, I've never seen so many cigarette burns in a carpet before or since, I was looking for the sign when the floor is full of fag butts please use the ashtrays

The myth that the old firm revolves around religious hatred is garbage in my opinion, or at least for one team anyway. Celtic were founded in 1887 with an opening statement saying "A football Club will be formed for the maintenance of dinner tables for the children and unemployed", not that this club is for the Irish Catholics who have immigrated here, albeit they were the majority in need back then. Rangers however felt threatened by these immigrants and based their identity off the opposite of what Celtic were. This is why Rangers never signed a Catholic player till the 1980s when Souness signed then Celtic player Mo Johnstone, with Souness later revealing that the Rangers board had advised he didn't sign any Catholics in order to not upset any Rangers fans. Protestant manager Jock Stein summed it up perfectly:
"Jock, if there were two players, one Catholic and one Protestant. Who would you sign?"
"The Protestant"
"Why?"
"Because I know that Rangers would never sign the Catholic".

Celtic is and always will be a club open to all, no sectarian songs have been sung at Celtic Park for years and it will continue to be this way. The same cannot be said for Rangers however when they seem to content for singing 'The Famine Song' and adding the little 'F*ck the pope and the vatican' when singing Follow Follow

There you go I rest my case

misinformed. rangers have had catholics before the 80s johnny hubbard naming one celtic dont have anybody but catholics on the board hence why jock stein was never given a place on the board he was given the football pools to run both were as bad as each other .hopefully time away from each other will lessen the daftness. the press up here stir it the snp stir it by creating laws which just make it ten times worse by antagonising idiots on both sides ftp the famine song etc havent been sung at ibrox for 2 years as they are banned .we have moved on we have had catholic captains amuroso who went to blackburn among few gattuso arteta van bronckhurst porrini mo johnston:p most people dont care what religion players are it producing the goods on the pitch that counts.just thinking if we kept most of that team together it would have been some team.

Hip Hip hurray something we can agree on C'mon, its a complete nonsense like you said, its not about where you go to church its about watching a team playing on a football field, from what I saw when I worked up there in both catholic clubs and Orange houses (mind you this was in the early 70s)they were both as bad as one another, its my belief that things HAVE improved immensely since those days but as you say there are always nutters on both sides of any argument who don't like to see peace both on and off the field. I honestly don't think that the present situation that exists is doing Scotish football any favours, Rangers in the forth tier of football, and as you said its not cut and dried that they will get automatic promotion next season, but the sooner the Status Quo is returned to the SPL football is the real looser
