So here it is….

So here it is….a brand spanking new year.
Not that I was ready for a new one…I hadn’t even got the old one to fit properly.
It still nipped and pinched me in some of my tender places.

2022 was not a great year, but then it really could have been much worse.
There were times…a few of them, when I thought I might be spending Christmas on my own.

But thankfully that did not happen.

I have spent time travelling on buses….giving my bus pass a run for its money….but not necessarily going to places I wanted to go.

I have crossed swords with those in authority. I have had to deal with crazy systems….systems that do not take into consideration vulnerable people, or their needs.
I have had frustrations to deal with….and I have survived all of this.
But not without getting a bit frayed around the edges.

I decided that this year we were not going to do Christmas.
Well, not the commercial version of Christmas anyway.
I bought no gifts…I only sent cards that could be hand delivered….and these I made and delivered myself.
Did the world crumble and fall because we did not succumb to the hype of the media. No, of course it didn’t…because Christmas is about WHO is in your life….not what you have wrapped in shiny paper.

The media tell us each year what Christmas is.
Usually this is an expensive and over the top celebration that has nothing to do with what Christmas is about.

Anyway, it has gone now and soon the trees and the lights will be packed up and stored away….for what feels like oooh about three weeks.
Then it will be with us again and I will be writing another ‘Bah Humbug’ Blog.

Margaret, I do so agree with you about what is important, it is definitely the people who are in your life, not the material things. Let’s face it, some of the material stuff, the presents given and received, will end up as landfill or be put away and not used, but the people in your life are what makes everything worthwhile. I know you have been through some very worrying and emotional times during 2022, and I am sure I echo the sentiments of Accyweb members when I wish you and yours the very best of years in 2023.

Thank you Dorothy.

Yes, it has been a bit of a testing time…but I think I might have passed this test.
As to gifts….I told everyone not to buy me anything.
I wanted nothing and this year I got nothing.
In previous years when I received gifts I sometimes re-gifted them.
And for those who gave me those gifts….well, it is me saying I approve of your taste, but I can find the gift a better home..
You just have to remember not to regift to the person who gave you the gift in the first place.

Christmas is a time for children. Those who have not lost their wonder, who have not been grasped by the cynical claws of life.
I DO still have ‘wonder’….but it is a different sort.
It is the kind of wonder that is….‘I wonder where I put my keys’
Now you are laughing….good!
