got my back burnt with the sun today... aftersun cream not working ( anyone got any quick cures)

don't need telling off already had that:(:o:(

Used tea bags...chilled of course......or thinly sliced tomatoes......you'll have to lie down and let someone place them gently on your burnt areas.....if you hear sizzling then you KNOW you are burnt.

cheers margaret I will add a few slices of bacon and maybe an egg or two....

I tell you what its flipping sore and getting hotter all the time:

If it's sore, you need cold, damp cloths spread on the burnt skin first of all. You need to cool it down so keep swapping the cloths and dipping them in cold water. When the heat has reduced, gently massage in Vaseline Intensive Care lotion, it moisturises your skin without being greasy and I've found it better than any after-sun cream (and a lot cheaper). Then a fan blowing on your back may help.

I always have a tan and I don't burn because I spend a lot of time outdoors (gardening), even when it's not so hot, with as much of me exposed as is decent. I always use sun cream and, if the sun is hot, I reapply it 2 or 3 times a day. I once burned badly (I was only 14) and I've never forgotten the pain!

Take some of the heat out of your back by standing under a tepid/cold shower....I'm afraid that is the best I can come up with.
Hope it cools down for you soon.

The tannin in the tea bags takes some of the pain out of sunburn....and tomatoes contain some natural chemical that is supposed to do the same.

We used to use Tea bags for patients with herpes....and it did seem to work.

Oh you poor thing Magpie .. must be hell.:fire::evil::dflam:

As suggested cool compresses and calamine lotion does give some relief/drink plenty of water and also a general painkiller can help. Moisturising sounds good if not too painful. Don't pop any blisters !

Get down to your local chemist tomorrow .. they will know all about this .. particularly after this weekend. After that, just time I'm afraid.. another day and you will feel much better... X

thanks to all of you ... I have now had a shower, had to eat the bacon butty and I have drank the tea and re used the t bag: got the fan on and errrrrrr sod it I am now going to sleep: Oh and I stood out in the rain ( that was good) from now on sun cream ( slap it on )

nite all:

Ive learnt my lesson of many a summers blistered to hell - stay in shade & not stay out too long in peak sun hours, there is a brill after burn gel from Florida that i swear by - just cant remember the name/brand of it tho not sure if u can get it here:confused: but good stuff:D

Im staying white as im destined to be so no point in sun worshipping anymore PMSL!!! Tho nice sit out in early evening sunshine is bliss without the pain:D

Well, blooming well keep up there .. just love this sweaty weather .. dead sexy :D

:rofl38: na couldnt do with that permanently would lose its excitement then hehehehehehe - the rain was quite refreshing:D [gawd dare i say that - after usually moaning about it lol]

I'm with the tomato brigade.

Can I have the skin when it peels off, as I'm currently covering a lampshade?:D

it is still very sore, but I did manage to get some sleep.... had the fan's on my back all night: ( know how a pop star feels now) fans on my back...
arrrrrrr think I must still have sun stroke:

thanks for asking willow, I think I have now learnt my lesson:

I'm glad it's a bit better, Magpie. Don't forget, once the pain's subsided, you need to moisturise your skin. You'll probably peel anyway but you need to protect the next layer and remember, don't use a greasy cream, that's like putting fat on to a fire.
