I was watching the news tonight from Syria.I notice that this topic has not been debated on Accyweb.I know that most people will say -- it's nowt to do with us--but can we ,as civilised human beings condone what is going on?

Nope, just as we can't condone what's going on in North Korea, Zimbabwe and in many other places around the world. However if you feel so strongly about it, please feel free to pack your kitbag, dust down your old Lee Enfield and join the other "freedom fighters" making their way to that unhappy country. Good luck with that!
Perhaps when we've finished forcefully rattling our sabers at the Russians we can fold our arms under our bosoms and start tutting across the virtual fence about all the other nasty things that are allowed to go on in the world?
One of the most heartbreaking scenes on TV last year was the sight of a row of several young brothers sat cross legged in a bomb blasted burial cave with all eyes glued to the entrance. It was evening and their mother had taken them there for safety in the early morning, told them not to move and had gone out to find food. The commentator estimated they must have been there about 9 hours awaiting her return. Sometimes you wish there was such a thing as a magic wand.
It's obvious why only a selected few places are being blasted out of existence. It's noticeable that the towns of minority Islam groups such as Shia are the targets. Iran which has a majority of Shias is obviously supplying their religious brethren with weaponry and what started off as a peaceful plea for a more democratic government obviously frightened some people into believing the country could end up as another Iran.

No, of course we cannot condone it....but there is little we can do about it.
There has been conflict of one sort or another in the middle east for as long as...well since God was in short pants.
Just because we are not rolling in there gung -ho does not mean that we agree with what is happening.
Why should the Uk feel it has to police the actions of other nations?
I thought t hat the much lauded Tony Blair was the Middle East Peace Envoy...maybe you should be asking him what HE is doing about it.
