Yes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I must be almost halfway there by now. I had a very restless night last night......I had some toasted fruit bread for my supper and I don't know if it was that that gave me wild dreams.....not GOOD wild dreams, like being whisked off on the back of a camel by a dark eyed handsome Bedouin.....but BAD wild dreams like being bombed by invading forces..craters in Blackburn Rd.....Hubby flying a mission in a helicopter.....my conscious self was asking 'what the heck is he doing flying a helicopter - he can't fly'.....I woke up all of a sweat and couldn't get back to sleep.......it didn't help that hubby was doing a good impression of the 'hairy night hog'.
5:30 came around and I toyed with the idea of getting up and making a brew but thought it would just wake old grumbly chops...so I just laid there planning my day.
I was still awake when hubby got up and went for a shower. I thought to myself 'Right, when he comes out, I'll go in there and get the day started'.
Didn't happen.....must have drifted off to dreamland because the next thing I knew it was 9am. I didn't know if I was on this earth or fullers earth.....I wasn't even sure whose bed I was in....OH....OK it was my own! I jumped up and had a quick wash and brush up....rushed downstairs and gobbled a bit of toast. I was just washing up the pots when hubby walked in. It is hard trying to look like you have been up for hours when you have only been out of bed for half an hour.
I was going to do a bit of grocery shopping and then go and visit Muti....just to check that she is OK and find out if she wanted anything.
We were out all morning.....don't ask me where the time went because I truly do not know. Hubby spent a little while at the Docs....I had to buy a new baking sheet....apparently hubby has used mine to put under the car when he was draining the oil or something like that.....I can't make sausage rolls and Florentines without a decent baking sheet. He bought some nuts, now nuts are supposed to be cracked by a nut cracker.....but not these nuts, Oh no, these nuts broke the nut cracker......nothing is more frustrating than having nuts and not having the device to crack them with. Hammers are ok if you like your nuts crushed! ....no-one seemed to have a decent nut cracker.....eventually we bought a substantial one in the Market Hall. Hubby told the lady in the Market Hall about our misfortune with the nutcracker.
She asked if his nuts were really hard......it was hard for hubby to conceal his delight when he told the lady 'On the contrary..... my nuts are very soft'.....ooer Missus, you asked for that one!
By the time we got back home and had a bite of lunch the day was gone. I WAS supposed to be moving the furniture around and getting out the tree and the ornaments......I WAS supposed to be decorating the tree and making the house look a bit festive.....but none of that happened either. I did manage to put the festive ribbons on quite a few of the presents.....and I have managed to sort the presents into 'family bags' and label each bag so that the delivery is easier.....so why do I feel like I have failed? I mean, it isn't exactly the last minute is it?
I could leave the tree until this time next week and it would be OK...wouldn't it? Yes, of course it would... but I am used to setting deadlines and meeting them....not stretching them. Maybe tomorrow then!
