They've been...the men from the BHF.
Yesterday Ma didn't want anything and told us not to go up....so we didn't.
We were back from Accrington by just after 9.30...well, honestly there isn't much to see is there?
On the way back himself suggested I should take some time out and perhaps go to Preston.
I said 'I might just do that'.
So on arriving home, I put the bit of shopping away and was getting myself sorted when he said he would come too.
The bus was on time and we set off on a pretty dull and grey journey.
We landed in Preston by 11.30. we headed in the direction of the market.
It was very busy with lots of mums with prams.....and children tagging along.
Himself steams off without checking to see where I am...whether I am following him or not.
If I didn't know better I would think he was trying to give me the slip.
As a consequence, I saw little of what was being purveyed.
Himself being satisfied that he had seen all he wanted to see, headed off down the main drag.
I was getting madder by the minute. This was not quite what i had envisaged by a trip out....a bit of 'ME' time.
I wanted to amble, to browse. Instead I was trotting down Fishergate trying to keep up with long legs.
He ducked into the shopping mall and was heading down the escalator by the time I got in there........and he was looking at his watch(I really do hate that).
When I caught up with him he said 'you aren't buying Donuts today are you?'....that was giving me the heavy hint that he didn't think I should be buying Krispy Kreme donuts.
I should've said Yes and bought the biggest box they had, but instead I said 'No' and we headed back to the bus station.
When we got to the bus station there was a bus in.......it was exactly12.30.
An hour, a bleeding, sodding hour.
That was all the time I was allowed in Preston.
All the way home on the bus I fizzed and fizzled......under my breath saying 'razz'n fazz'n doodah....grumble grrr grunt' just like the dog in Wacky races.
We got off the bus and I steamed ahead of him and tossed over my shoulder this comment
'I won't be doing that again for a good long time'
He looked perplexed and said in a bemused voice 'What?'
'A two hour bus ride, for a one hour gallop round the market...with you!'
So by the time I got back in the house I was in what could be described as a foul temper.
I noticed the light on the phone was flashing......a message.
It was from the guys at BHF. They had phoned the night before and re-scheduled the pick of the furniture for this morning...which is why we went out yesterday...but now they wanted to come round and pick the stuff up right away....they were in Rishton.
I asked if we could leave the arrangements as they were...for the stuff to be picked up today(I couldn't tell them that I was in a foul mood)......but they said they couldn't do Wednesday now...so it was then, or Friday!
So I told them to come round and pick the stuff up. I threw my coat on the stairs and set about moving the bookcase...by myself(he was making a brew....well, you have to get your priorities right don't you?)
I told him that he needed to stir his stumps...the big chest of drawers in the living room needed moving and it need to be done now...not when he had had his brew.
The stuff was all made ready......the three guys turned up and the stuff was loaded onto the van.
The floor in the living room is worse that we thought.......and had the drawers been left much longer they would have been down in the basement......we haven't got a basement, but you get my drift.
The open space in both rooms has meant that today I have been able stack the bags of sundry items....all ten of them, a bit more neatly...these were being picked up today.
At 9.15, I got a call from Peter......could he come and pick up the donations...were they ready??
I asked him if he had had three weetabix as he would need his muscles?
in ten minutes he was in my front room labelling the bags......by the time I had finished there were 14 bags a pair of wellibobs and a couple of large games.
So most of the stuff has now gone.
I asked him to leave me some bags as i might still be getting rid of some stuff......he left me 10.
I think I am getting there......and I do feel that with regard to my inability to let go of material things, I have done great things......I hope that someone will benefit from the donations too.
