Today there are startling reports that in the not too distant future we will be seeing yearly bills for our energy at around the £2000 mark.
I don’t know about you, but I just got to wondering, idly, like you do, as to how we came to this.
The cynical side of me also thought that this could be a media distraction from something unsavoury going on in the field of politics.
I also, rather cynically, thought it might be a ploy to get us all to use less of the stuff…..and of course at prices like that, there are some that will have no choice.
For them, and some of these will be families with young babies, it may be the stark choice of eating or heating.
Many people will be pushed into fuel poverty.
I also got to wondering how in the name of tarnation we came to rely on outside sources….foreign(and volatile ) countries at that for a commodity so basic and important to both well being and also to manufacturing.
Which brainiac was it that thought it was safe, logical and a smart idea to buy our energy from the likes of France and Russia?
If you know…answers on a postcard…or a fag packet…and if it could be the one that this plan was worked out on…so much the better.
It would allow us to see which politician has swamp water for brains.
Oh yes….and while I am on about this.
The press will have you believe that it is Russia that is the villain…that has a choke hold on the pipelines.
Do not believe them.
We get only 1% of our energy supplies from Russia, but it is good to have someone to blame…..and it really does not matter to the media if they feed the readers with misleading information.
So we can look forward to a winter of cold home candles on the mantelpiece, no Tv or internet…unless someone can get it to run on anger and steam.
I am old enough to remember the times in the past when we worked just three days and suffered power cuts on the other days.
It was not good and business was not reliant on the kind of technology they use today…..so how will that pan out.
When asking who thought up the idea to make us reliant on outside sources for our energy…I just wonder if it was the same brain-box who decided that letting China build a Nuclear power station was a good plan.
It might be good to tell the Insulate lot that there will be no benefits to insulation if there is no heating in the first place….and insulation will not light the gloom, or power the computers that bake the bread, that turn the wind turbines on and off, that powers the equipment used in an intensive care unit or a general theatre.
Oh and because I am an infrequent visitor here these days…..nothing much to comment on in the main forum….yes, you could say it is partly my fault….I could try posting something interesting….I have tried it….if it doesn’t come in red and white and have ASFC stamped on it…it dies from lack of interest.
Did you see the news that French Fishermen who had been denied licences to fish within the 12 mile limit, were giving us two weeks to change our minds or they would blockade the channel and the ports.
They would stop EU produce from leaving their shores for ours…..they would stop our products getting to their markets…..they were going to ruin our Christmas.
I wonder how Spain feels about their fresh produce being turned back….their economy being deprived of a valuable market…not for just fruit and veg, but for other stuff….like wine.
I would like to see how French fishermen go on stopping a plane from delivering the stuff.
Depriving other countries of their right to market their products wherever they wish is a bully boy tactic……so this coming from the French…..well Quelle Surprise…..NOT.
The other thing that needs to be considered is that if you stop stuff getting here from other markets, then all that happens is we trade somewhere else.
If I go to Tesco for grapes…..and they refuse to serve me because they want to play silly bu88ers…..I just go somewhere else……and what is more I do not return to buy anything else……and I tell everyone who will listen that they are using unethical business practices….because it is unethical for someone to dent a suppliers market because of some wrong they feel I have dealt them.
Anyway, with regard to the fishermen….Brussels have told them to wind their necks in and stop using the EU as a weapon against the UK because they do not like Brexit.
I am going away now….to think some more.
