This last week, Tyler and I have done two day trips out on a coach.
On Wednesday we had a trip to York.
When I booked this trip at the town hall I was told they would pick us up at the Hare and Hounds bus stop at ten minutes to eight.
So it was a good job I looked at my ticket, because on there it said ten minutes to nine.
We could both have been stood there looking like spare cake at a wedding.
The other thing was the little mini bus almost sailed past us....it was just a good job I was watching and flagged the driver down.
When we got on, the driver grumpily told me that he picked up at the Hare and Hounds.
I thanked him and told him that I would bear this in mind for my next coach trip.

The drive to York was pleasant and with few hold ups. This despite the fact that it was the Ebor race meeting.
We reached York just after 11am and were told that we needed to be back at the coach by 5pm.
Six hours in the lovely city of York.
Now wouldn't you think that would be enough to do everything we wanted to do?
Well, it wasn't.
We wanted to visit the Minster, the Jorvik, the Castle museum....we wanted to sit somewhere pleasant for lunch.
So there were three lessons there.
1) do not trust what you are told.
2)check your ticket
3) expect nothing and you will not be disappointed.

We were dropped off outside the city walls....a coach park near The Uni.
So wee hoofed down Gillygate and along Bootham.
The good thing was I knew exactly where I was going.
Tyler was hungry.
To be fair he had eaten breakfast around six am....thinking we would be out of the house at 7.30
He wanted to go to lunch....and he wanted a Wetherspoons lunch.
I told him that there were three in York, but I had not a clue where they were.
I told him that I felt there was one near the Castle museum....and that was on our list of things to see.
I asked Tyler to check on his phone where we should be heading.
This was lesson number 4....I learned that the lad cannot map read.
I followed my nose and we found it(well after consulting another tourist).
So we went and had a very pleasant lunch.

To be continued.
