vs Cambridge

The lads worked their socks off today, the injuries - first to Isaac Heath & then to Connor O'Brien changed the game otherwise I think we could have taken all 3 points, really hope both lads are ok - the one to Connor was particularly sickening but the ref seemed to believe neither deserved as much as a booking!
Only slight criticism i'd have is that 'Big Dave' should've been subbed much earlier as the lad looked shattered, he kept going but was obviously not affecting the game despite his efforts.
That said, I'd have happily taken a draw before the game & for the lads to hang on under real.pressure towards the end with corner after corner coming in was impressive so well done to each & every one of them

How the referee didn't see the double foul on Connor I'll never know...not even a yellow card for either Cambridge player.....Looked like their number 6 that barged into him when he jumped and won the header which tipped him over onto his head and neck. He fell really badly.....and the referee took no action whatsoever.......if we'd have done that it would have been a sending-off for certain......

Well played today Stanley.......brilliant goal for Faz...cross in by Isaac...headed on by Whalley I think...and great finish the big man.

Stats say we got 'owned', so I'll take the point very happily. Good onya STANLEY
Stats. were about right Kiwi.

Regardless of the Referee, regardless of their 'game management', Cambridge were a far better side.

They had a good style of play, they passed it quickly down the wings and got the ball into the box quickly also.

They could have been out of sight well before we took the lead - against the run of play.

We played the second half like we were down to 9 men for some reason - choirboy noted we were playing against 12 and I took his point.

At the whistle, they felt like we felt the last time we played them at The Crown....

A good point in my opinion - I would have grabbed it at kick off.

Let us hope that the injuries are not as bad as first seemed and we move onto the next one :)

:)

Call me a masochist, but I just watched some of the highlights to confirm what I thought I saw of O?Brien?s injury.
And, yes, a Cambridge player made no attempt to jump for a header but deliberately backed into Conor as he was in the air, thus causing him to crash uncontrolled to the ground.
Of course, the ref or linesman or fourth official did not see any play likely to endanger an opponent?

Another thing which I did not like - unless I am wrong - I did not see anybody from the opposition check on Connor at any time.... not good from fellow professionals!!

Not quite right, Val.
I saw the player who upended Conor bend down to check on him immediately afterwards, probably because he realised he had caused it, but then moved away.

Fully agree with you Crown Grounder. I said the same at the time when Connor was fouled. Connor leapt high to head the ball and the Cambridge player came in late and lower and turned Connor in the air. In my opinion it was an example of endangering the safety of a fellow professional and should have resulted in a yellow card. The referee didn’t even give a free kick as he eventually restarted the game with a bounce up.
It was similar with the foul and injury on Isaac. The Cambridge player touched the ball away from Isaac but followed through late and again I think the referee may not have given a free kick? Cambridge outplayed Stanley but they were also very devious in challenges, making pushes constantly on our players just enough to put our players off balance.
I looked at the match stats and the referee only blew for three fouls against Cambridge in the whole match. Referees like this guy seem to think that if they get through a match without awarding any yellow cards that it will automatically be assumed that they have had a good match! This referee was simply inept!
Stanley played heroically to earn a very deserved point.
ON STANLEY ON.
