Well, Slap my hands!

I forgot to tell you about Cowes!
How could that have happened?
Well, I do know really.....Cowes isn't my favourite place on the Isle of Wight.
It seems that it doesn't matter what day you go there, it is almost invariably, closed.

After spending time at Osborne House, and to round off the day, Dave, our driver took us to Cowes for about an hour and a half.
Personally I would have preferred to go right back to the hotel, but this being a 'full day' excursion we had to fill another couple of hours.
That was OK, it meant that I could take Ma to the Co-op and she could get her pension. I should explain......the Co-op is the place that now houses the post office.

Cowes is not a bit wheel chair friendly.....very few ramps, steep kerbs, narrow pavements...I could go on.
Ma had complained about my driving at Osborne....it was even worse in Cowes.
She told me that I was knocking chunks off her already bruised ar$e(again, her words, not mine).
I told her that if she wanted to draw her pension then she had better put a sock in it.......that I couldn't help the way the blooming streets were laid out.
The Co-op is up a fair old brew, it was a right pull to get her up there, and then to find out that there was a kerb that was at least 18 inches high.......I tilted Ma back and hoisted the chair over the kerb before she could get out. She hates that.

I don't know what it is about post offices, but the people behind the counter seem to be as slow as a God's horse......we waited and we waited......eventually it was Ma's turn......she put her card in the machine and keyed in her secret number.......and got paid up in full.
Now she was worth mugging:).
I told her to put her money away before we went out into the street. Cowes might be a bit on the posh side, but I am sure they have their share of thieves.

We still had something like 40 minutes to while away......I pushed Ma to the only Charity shop that I know of in Cowes......She had a good mooch round and bought herself a black evening top.

We ambled back to where the bus was to pick us up. Anchored on the esplanade, not far from the Royal Yacht club, was a three masted ?schooner. The Lord Nelson....this is one of those ships that take disabled youngsters for adventure holidays.
There was a wide mix of youngsters on board, doing maintenance under the watchful eye of supervisors....there were even a group of them up on one of the masts.......I was told that they were repairing the halyards...but what do I know?
(not a lot)
There they were, precariously balanced, high in the air, doing goodness knows what.
I pointed them out to Ma and she said she wouldn't go up there for a gold clock.
I told her that I felt sure that there were many able bodied folk who would agree with that sentiment.

Soon the coach returned and took us back to Sandown.......as I said in my previous blog...I was glad to get back and jump in the shower...wash the stink off me.
I knew that I would need no rocking to get me to sleep that evening.

coming soon...Friday, Godshill and lunch with Mez........with pictures! Watch this space.

Oh I don't know ! it's all part of the fun of sailing, I did it a good few years back & really enjoyed it. Mind ours was a good bit smaller, looks really nice Marge.

I'm not a big fan of boats if I'm honest......they don't...well. float my boat.
I prefer flying......I love flying......the speed, being up in the clouds.....love it, love it, love it!
