It has been more than 4months since my other half had his hair cut.
Over these weeks he has assumed the appearance of a mad professor....his hair sticking out at all angles....and so wiry that unwary flies have impaled themselves on the curly spikes(ok, that is just me being whimsical...it did not happen anywhere other than in my fevered imagination).
I have, on a number of occasions offered to tidy up his thatch.
Each time he has declined, but in a way that left me in no doubt that he would no more trust me with a pair of scissors than he would trust an Alsatian with a juicy steak.
If he thought that this would make me feel bad, then he doesn't know me too well.
It mattered not to me if he looked like a busted sofa....well, no that isn't exactly true....but it did not break my heart.
He also had a good growth of hair growing out of his ears too.
This he had managed to cope with on the left side, but couldn't manage to trim the hair out of his left ear.
It was so long it could almost be plaited.
Anyway, the other day he said he was fed up of looking at himself looking so unkempt.....he said that he would allow me to cut his hair for him.
I was tempted to say that the offer had expired....but didn't.
I asked daughter if I could borrow her hair clippers...and brought them over yesterday.
How hard could it be?
I used to shear our long haired Jack Russell, and he would fidget and growl at me....with a very real threat that he would sink his canines into my thigh.
This was no idle threat either....on a couple of occasions(when I was taking the trimmers round his Crown Jewels....he did lunge for me....but missed i'm still quite agile, in spite of advanced years).
This morning I put a stand chair in front of the window (I needed good light, didn't want to remove his ears...or how would his glasses stay on?) I opened the box, selected the guard and asked him to sit in the chair.
I wrapped a towel round his shoulders and then turned on the clippers.
The buzzing sent the cats scurrying away to hidey. holes.
In about 15 minutes he was shorn, his ear hair was trimmed and his eyebrows too(they were like a couple of migrant coypu's lurking on his face).
I handed him the mirror and he was surprisingly pleased with my efforts...wth the emphasis on the surprised bit.
There was a circle of clipping on the rug......all dealt with very quickly.
After having a good look at my handiwork, he told me to order a set of clippers....that I have got the job.
Next please!
This was a first for me.
