What a fantastic day yesterday. I'm not just saying that because it was my best mate's wedding, it truly was a brilliant day.
After the rush of getting to the hairdresser to have my hair wrestled into something called 'barrell curls' and pinned with about 50 clips to the top of my head (adding another couple of inches to my height), a mad dash to the florist for a buttonhole for Sparks, I made my way to Angie's.
The house was full of family who had travelled for miles to attend. Angie was out getting her hair and make up done and there were clothes, shoes and various relatives everywhere. In walked the bride and even without the dress the hair and make up were stunning. Neither of us have ever seen each other looking so presentable and we immediately burst out laughing at how well we scrubbed up..
We went to Whitehall country club, smuggled in 2 bottles of champagne and several glasses and went to our room to get dressed. There were 6 of us including Angie, 5 bridesmaids and all of these big dresses. It was quite crowded and the lovely room with 4 poster bed looked like a bomb site within minutes. We wrestled each other into the dresses, applied tiaras, drank champers and generally larked around and had a good laugh until they came to escort us to the wedding room.
Angie was the only calm person there. All of us bridesmaids were nervous wrecks, her dad didn't know where to put himself and the hotel manager dithered around and made me wish that someone would slip him a sedative. We walked down the aisle to beautiful violin music played by Angie's brother and nephew. I have to say that Dale also scrubbed up well and everybody made a real effort. Sparks looked gorgeous in his suit and even the children managed to stay presentable through the service (although it didn't take them long to get dirty afterwards).
The meal was really good and the service from the hotel staff was impeccable. The speeches were hilarious which surprised me as sometimes they can be the most boring bit, we laughed our heads off at the best man's speech.
The night do was at Accy golf club and although they are having some extensive renovations up there at the moment they really made an effort to have everything nice for us. What can I say, it was a perfect day and everything went like clockwork. Angie couldn't believe that they'd organised all of that (they're not exactly renowned for their organisational skills).
I have woken up this morning with a mild hangover and my hair still in it's barrell curls......Honestly it hasn't moved. Angie and Dale stayed at the hotel last night and she has woken up with her hair still in its do too. The only thing is, she has to go down for breakfast now and has forgotten her hair brush............. Hehehehe, there's always something isn't there???
