wistful dreaming.

I was speaking to my niece in Oz this morning....she has just become one of those 'G' things that I hate....though she loves it! You know what that means don't you?........It means that I am a great-great Auntie M........that makes me feel really old.
My great niece(mother to the new baby) has had a very torrid time.
She went overdue by two weeks and then was induced.......the baby was lying in a really peculiar position which meant that she ended up with a section.
She thought all would be well after this but continued to feel really poorly and puked her heart up...so much so that she couldn't feed her new baby.
She was taken into hospital severely dehydrated and ended up after several days of investigation being diagnosed with gall bladder problems and ended up needing to have her gall bladder removed.
Thankfully she is on the road to recovery.....but it has meant that my niece (the baby's 'G' thing) has had to do quite a lot of the caring......both for the baby and her sick daughter......yeah, Ok, I know it is what mums do....but she was telling me that she is taking herself off for a well deserved break.
Now that everything seems to have settled down she feels comfortable to leave the recovered invalid and the new baby and go jetting off to Noosa for two weeks. I absolutely love Noosa....the sea, the sun and the fine white sand.........heaven!
I think my envy must have been palpable, because she said 'Why don't you fly out to Brisbane and then come up and join me for a week...or two?'
If only, was my response. Hubby said 'Go'....yeah right........like I can just drop everything and jet off just like that.
He said I was making obstacles. Yeah Daughter is at college, but only one evening and one half day........he said he would look after the potlids(kids) if I wanted to go. Want to go....want to go........I would kill to go! But I know it isn't the least bit practical.
To be honest I know that he isn't good at the childcare thing and I wouldn't want to leave him to do it....he can't see hazards...and sometimes he is just as much of a kid as they are.
I have thought about it all day....and reading Letties travel plans for later in the year made me even more envious and gave me a real dose of itchy feet.......so much so that I could almost see myself packing....riding off to Manchester....sitting in a window seat and sipping a chilled glass of wine.........then I thought I would check out the prices of a flight.
Almost a thousand quid.......that was when reality kicked in and I decided I would have to satisfy my lust for travel by looking at pictures from past visits. Not quite the same but much, much cheaper.
Where is that fairy godmother when you need her?

YOU"RE MAD WOMEN!!!!!!!!! or are you gonna live more lives than this one??

GET GONE!!! bloody hell Hubby saying go..........chance of a life time.......Margaret If I could come round to yours and pack your bloody bag myself I would....................get gone women.

Margaret... Slinky is right. GET GONE!!!! I know a thousand quid is not chicken feed but in the great scheme of things, how many other opportunities are you going to have to do this? Nobody knows what the future holds for any of us and these opportunities should be used. We only have one life and you, more than anyone know how quickly that can be taken from us. Use this opportunity, your hubby will cope with the kids and you never know......... in a situation where he has to cope, he may come up trumps.
