Elephant Leather.

We went to Bury yesterday......again.
We normally alternate, Bury one Saturday, Manchester the next.
Last week we went on the market and bought some small, but succulent, sirloin steaks.
I am not a big steak fan, but these were delicious. I flash fried them, a couple of minutes each side(they were still just pink when you put the knife to them) and we had a few chips with them.......I had a dollop of mustard with mine......and I could have eaten it all again.

So before we set off yesterday, himself asked if we should go to Bury with the intention of buying steak, for tea....and this time we would eat healthy.......we would still have a few chips, but salad too.

We went off with that in mind. I was slavverin' thinking of the lovely, tasty tea ahead of us.

It was a very pleasant ride over to Bury.

Ramsbottom was thronged with folk again, and there was a crowd(and I mean a crowd) of people on the railway platform waiting for the steam train to take them over to Bury......a train that arrived while we were picking up passengers......it had 12 carriages!

Bury was busy too. When we go to the market it is usually fairly quiet, and we can walk around without having to negotiate with prams, shopping trolleys and browsers. Yesterday, it was packed from the time we landed and as were were heading off to the bus station around 12 midday, it was throbbing.

We got our steak......lovely dark ruby meat with buttery yellow fat marbled through it.....and a rim of the same yellow fat.
Himself got strawberries and raspberies for afters......to be served with a goodly dollop of vanilla ice cream.

I cooked the steak in exactly the same manner as I did last week.......it was as tough as elephant leather.......
I think that bit of steak came either from the hooves or from the bit the bull sat on........
Gizmo got a helping, and Lad(the stray white cat that isn't mine, but that I have been feeding for the last four years) got the bits that failed to surrender to my persistent mastication.
The chips were good though....and himself enjoyed the fruit and ice cream.

I hate it when you look forward to a good meal and it disappoints......grrrrrr.

:D
