It wasn't easy, and me and himself had words this morning......not nice words either.......some of them sounded germanic to me(though, what do I know?).
I asked him to take me up to the Pals to get an appointment and he said 'NO.......I asked you to go last week and you wouldn't. You were going to cure yourself....so cure yourself'(or words to that effect)
'OK, then don't take me I'll go on the bus...in the pouring rain' I replied.
'And if I get pneumonia and die it will be all your fault'......then I stormed upstairs.
I really didn't feel like arguing the toss.......I had coughed fit to burst this morning, after a fairly cough free night. I had thought that I was turning the corner because that would have been my second relatively cough free night.
It was this coughing fit the finally decided me. I had to ball up my courage and go and take my top off to let someone have a listen at my bellows.
Anyway he did relent. I don't think he wanted to have my demise on his conscience.
We got to Pals at just before 8.15 and there was already a queue of 14 people.
The desk opened at 8.30 and when it was my turn I asked for an appointment and was given one with a 'duty doctor'.......(they couldn't tell me who it would be), for 9.10.
So hubby left me there to await the appointment while he went off to do the shopping for his pensioners.
I tried to make myself comfortable...not easy on those waiting room chairs......I was far to antsy to read any of the magazines and wandered around like a caged lion.
I saw people come in, have their name up in lights and the go clutching their little green slips(prescriptions)......and time seemed to hang suspended.
I needed to use the loo, but could only spot a disabled access toilet. I asked one of the girls on the desk and they said to use that one.
There was just a little problem......the door could not be secured.......there was no lock on it.
I just had to do my little wee as quickly as possible and hope that no-one would interrupt me.....or the waiting room would get a view that they wouldn't appreciate.
I was called at 9.35.....it was a very young looking asian lady doctor.
To be truthful she didn't really look old enough to be doing a paper round.
I told her my tale of woe and she decided that she would listen to my chest......so it was down to the vest jobby.
The good news....my chest is clear......I have an upper respiratory infection with perhaps a reactive cough.
I came away with antibiotic therapy....for one week, if I am still coughing after that time I have to go back and they will organise a chest x-ray and perhaps put me on a short term steroid inhaler.
I didn't have my blood pressure taken, no-one asked me for a specimen of wee-wee, they didn't mention anything at all about cholesterol.....thank goodness.
I know that in two weeks I will be better.
I hope you are now all pleased and satisfied that I took your good advice(eventually)
