The Big Day.

Ma and I awoke to the sound of birdsong......the birds had been singing for a couple of hours, but we didn't wake until about 6.30.
It was too early to get up....breakfast wasn't served until 8am at the earliest.......I opened the curtains and looked outside.
It was fine(just) but very grey and overcast.......this wasn't the weather that we had on order for the wedding.

I went and completed my ablutions....and then sat on the stool in front of the mirror experimenting with the 'Fascinator'........our room overlooked a field.....there wasn't anything at all in the field.....and we weren't overlooked in any way....so I felt quite comfortable...sat on the stool in my bra and knickers........I was messing with my hair when I noticed in the mirror ........ a chap walked past our window and stared straight in......and then another one went past and did the same thing.......aaaaargh, both of these chaps knew the brand of my underwear.......I jumped up to close the curtains, just as another younger man went by....he gave me a cheeky wink and a thumbs up........and, me.....I blushed:o.

I hoped that I wasn't going to come face to face with any of these chaps during the day....or if I did I hoped that they would not recognise me.

Fortunately Ma was in the bathroom completing her morning routine whilst all this was happening.....I told her what happened and she laughed......she said it was a good job I hadn't been sitting there in the nip.

Once I got dressed I went to investigate just how these folks got round to the back of our bungalow to look in.
I found that there was a sort of board walk around all the bungalows.....and folk were using it as a sort of exercise route.
From now on the curtains were going to be drawn when we were getting dressed.

Ma and I went down to breakfast.
The breakfast room was up two flights of stairs, this was a bit of a trial for ma....she did ask a couple of the lads if they would give her a piggy back, but on refelction neither of them looked too steady on their pins.......think they had been on that scottish falling down juice......they certainly looked a bit rough round the edges.

The breakfast was a Full Scottish breakfast....egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes beans and haggis......there was grapefruit, or cereal or yoghourt and half a dozen different types of fruit juice first.......the guys who had been on the scottish falling down juice were glugging the orange juice down like there was no tomorrow.
I went and got us both some juice and grapefruit segments.......the young waitress came and brought us tea and coffee, and a huge rack of toast.
Once we had finished the grapefruit she came and took our order....Ma had her usual bacon and egg....I asked for the Scottish breakfast but without the haggis.....I had passed one of the other guests who was tucking into the scottish breakfast and she had a slice of haggis on her plate and it looked horrible.
The waitress asked me if I had ever tried haggis.....'No' I said......
she said I should try it as I might like it....so I said 'OK, bring me the full scottish'.

Now my maxim in life is 'if it looks horrible, don't put it in your mouth'....this maxim has been my mantra for many, many years.........and this time I didn't follow my own rule.

The breakfast came and it all looked lovely.......except....for what looked like a miniature fried cow pat.....and what did I do.......I put a bit on my fork and put it into my mouth.......aaaaargh, it was horrible........would it be deemed bad mannered to spit it back onto my plate?
I certainly couldn't swallow the vile mixture....so I spat it into my paper napkin.

I was glad I had some orange juice to take away the taste of this stuff.
I could hoojie thinking about it right now.

We finished our breakfast and then went back to the room.......the wedding wasn't going to be taking place until 4pm....so we had quite a bit of day to kill until then.
We had several offers of lifts into the village proper....but it was really close and i felt it might just tire Ma out so that she would not enjoy the wedding.....so we stayed around the complex. Ma was happy to go back to the room and watch the cooking programs on TV.
I picked up my camera and explored the grounds.

Debs had the bridal suite, and it was lovely....they had a jacuzzi, a four poster bed and the room had a lovely view over the gardens.

The hairdresser and the beauty therapist were coming up from Accrington to do the hair and make up of any of the guests who wanted it doing....so she was kept quite busy.

Debs was, by mid morning, getting ever so slightly stressed out....so she went and shut herself in the bathroom and had a long bubbly jacuzzi........while in her room the bridesmaids were being made beautiful and having their hair done.
Stuart, the groom, was banished to the bar, where he was keeping company with a certain Jack Daniels and his friend Coke......there were quite a few of the male contingent doing the same thing....and though Stuart looked a bit frayed, the other guys seemed to be enjoying it all.

to be continued.......
PS......this is my 600th episode.......I should have a prize:D

ah i would have howled with laughter if it was me sat there in my bra and knickers, but then again i have no shame, i havent had haggis for a couple of years but i did always like it, i think its an acquired taste Marg xx

congrats on your 600th blog, you really SHOULD write a book, you make me smile everyday with your brilliant blogs xxx

Oh Marg can just imagine your reaction when you saw the men walking past. Think I might have seen Debs at the hairdressers as my hairdresser said she was going to Scotland to do a brides hair and the beautician was going as well.
Congrats on the milestone 600th blog. Keep em comingxxx

Now you didn't tell me about the 2 chaps seeing you in your smalls when you gave us the low down on the wedding. I've just nearly wet myself laughing coz I can just imagine your face and Grandma D's I bet she howled laughing:D:D:D

Well, I was a bit embarassed to think that I had been 'sprung' wearing my sloggi knicks......and a new(thank God) white lacy Bra....which because it was new was still white......you have to be thankful for these very small mercies. :D:D:D

Just think though .. something always happens on wedding days dont it margaret ... and at least you can laugh about it .. could you imagine if it had been your mum that was sat there .. or even you were coming out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel ...

Can confirm it was my hairdresser Marg so I have met Debs and even gave my input on her make-up as she was having a practice run with hairdresser and beautician when I was there. Small world isn't it?:D
